If so, how do I get a fee waiver if I'm applying online through the Common App?

Johns Hopkins University will waive the application fee for finalists and semifinalists of the Maryland Distinguished Scholars program. Applicants must include a copy of the certificate when applying for the fee waiver to be approved. We also recommend you make a note of your fee waiver status in the additional information section of your application. The fee waiver is not offered to Honorable Mentions of the Maryland Distinguished Scholars program.

Okay...I was a finalist. Should I continue to apply online through Common App and then mail in the certificate?

Yes. Don't pay the fee when you submit your online Common App. Mail in a copy of your certificate and a quick cover sheet re: a fee waiver. It is that simple.

I am a MD distinguished scholar, but I didn't think about it at the time so I mailed in my check with my application.

When I check my bank account I see that they have not cashed my check...I was worried about this at first because I thought it meant that they had not processed by app, but do you think it could be because they saw I was a MD scholar. I am not worried about the check, just that they processed my app.

Most application fees have not been processed yet. We process application checks in large (very large) batches and usually that process does not start until the end of the month.

Since you submitted an application fee you can not now request a fee waiver because of your MD distinguished scholar status. You need to request that in advance of applying and submitting your fee.

Ok thanks...and I completely understand about the fee waiver, no problem there.

Hi, I’m a senior preparing to apply to JHU. I was a Maryland Distinguished Scholar Finalist. Just to double check, this fee waiver ordeal is still valid, right? This thread was last replied to in 2008, so I’m just making sure the same goes for 2009.

Thanks.

Yes, still valid. ONLY for finalists and semi-finalists.

Aight, that’s good, I was beginning to worry about that.
