Does anyone know where to register for fee

You can find instructions on [this page](http://web.mit.edu/writing/fee/procedures.html).

Thanks! Never saw anything with that link!

The MIT webpage can be kind of forbidding until you become familiar with it. :)

There are links to all sorts of useful information from the Class of 2014 First-Year page. Note #6 from the “Countdown to Campus” list:

[MIT Class of 2014: Countdown to Campus](http://mit.edu/firstyear/2014/countdown/index.html)

can we not take the FEE and live with taking CI-HW class?

If you don’t take FEE and don’t have required AP score, yes, it would seem you just have to take a CI-HW class.
Once again, the answer is in the information-rich Class of 2014 First-Year site:

[MIT Class of 2014: Advising & Academics - Communication Requirement](http://mit.edu/firstyear/2014/subjects/ci.html#FEE)

(see last bulleted point under “If you receive a FEE score of…”)

The CI-HW class listings are quite limited.

If at all possible, if you’re not going to get a 5 on one of the AP English tests, I would advise taking the FEE, even though it’s not fun. It will give you so many more options for fun HASS classes – MIT has so much to offer in HASS courses, and you won’t ever be on pass-no record again.

Does anyone know what the FEE is like, exactly? I’ve read their website and what they generally test you on, but how long do the essays you write have to be, and what kinds of questions do they ask?

I would like to know too… I know it’s impossible to prepare for but I just want to know whether it’s difficult or not, and if a more or less average English student would be able to pass thee uhh CI-HW required threshold.
Oh and does anybody know roughly how long it is? Hopefully I don’t sound like an ungrateful ****** but I’m working the whole week and I wouldn’t want to be bogged down the whole weekend…

Absolutely. About two-thirds of FEE-takers pass every year, and that doesn’t include the population that doesn’t take the FEE because they already have a 5 on one of the AP English tests.

I mean, the FEE is worth taking seriously, but it’s not a huge hurdle.
