Feedback on NYU Tisch ED Auditions?

Does anyone have any feedback/thoughts to share on the NYU Tisch early decision auditions that took place earlier this week?

Hey nansan,

I attended the ED Tisch auditions this week too. I went Friday, what day did you go? Was it for MT, Acting, or Dance? I’m not sure if it was only for MT or not because I saw different people there…I thought the audition went well, the dancing was definitely challenging for me, since I’m not a dancer, so I hope that’s not weighed heavily. Singing was good and I think acting was alright. What questions did they ask you in your interview? Did they give you any comments at all?

Ugh, I am not a strong dancer either, how difficult was the dance audition?

NYU reinstated the dance audition? Interesting…

DD talked with a friend yesterday that auditioned last week ED for MT. She said that it was a very good experience and said they made her feel at ease during her audition.

Yes, Tisch apparently is requiring a dance audition for kids whose first choice is the musical theater wing of the New Studio on Broadway. My D is a sophomore at Tisch in CAP21 (the musical theater studio which was contracted for years to provide MT education and training to Tisch drama kids) and she did not have a dance audition. However, the resulting class has a decent mix of kids who are expert dancers (very advanced) to some who came in with almost no dance experience. Fortunately, CAP provides four levels of dance each semester, so people are levelled at the beginning of the semester and that works well.

Claire,

Well I’m not gonna lie, the dancing was challenging not being a dancer, even taking classes. I’m a “mover” not a dancer haha. But I think the most important thing was that I tried and they saw that. If you just stand there with a confused look on your face, that’s not good. And in one dance you had to improv at the end…I looked like a fool but I did it. It was a jazz routine and then a ballet routine. All I can say is, take as MANY dance classes as you can before the auditions…

Britishwannab18, I feel sure you did fine. At least through CAP21, the focus on the program is on “actors who sing” and not on dance first as the most important of the three-pronged discipline of musical theatre. I think it is probably far more important that you showed them that you can PERFORM than that you are the next Gelsey Kirkland.

Ahhh, thank you notmamarose for putting me at ease :)

My strongest is definitely my singing, my parents told me people were afraid to go in after me lol so i hope i showed the best i could to them.

My only worry is my SAT scores, they are wayyy below the average and I hope thats not going to hurt me  My gpa is just like a point below. But yeah…I’m praying hard and I hope this is where I am meant to be. I hope they see the passionate, dedicated girl behind those academics…
