I posted this in ‘Engineering Majors’ subforum, but am posting this again here for more feedback.

I am looking for any feedback on the following colleges for EE major. Eventually, i want to do masters and job in Semiconductor research.

Univ. of California - San Diego

Univ. of Washington - Seattle

Univ. of Portland

Portland State Univ

Oregon State Univ

My preference is to stay close to Portland but still get the quality of education as close to UCSD/UW as possible. Specifically, please let me know if you think the quality of education between UCSD/UW is vastly different from UP/OSU (or PSU).

if you want to find out what employers think, go to the career website of the colleges and find out who recruits on-campus. If they don't have that info online, then email or call them.

Thanks for the reply. More than what employers think, i am interested in knowing how good a EE program the above listed colleges have.

For example, by how good, i mean:
1. how well they teach the basic concepts (btw, I think undergrad is purely basic)
2. how good are their assignments and tests (thought provoking)
3. how do they teach the lab concepts and their labs equipped.
4. how good are the projects assigned. Are they allowed to pick the projects and how much support can the faculty provide.
5. how knowledgeable are the faculty members?
6. how interested are they in helping the students?
7. Do they have a good reputation in the industry?

U washington and UC San Diego are much better than the others. They are both top-notch. Both have excellent reputations. Washington is closer to Portland. They are both ABET accredited which means they meet accepted educational standards.
