Feeder Schools for Top Med Schools?

" am not saying anyone will make a life decision based on it but someone will start a thread with “So I’ve read on here that there is no difference between going to Harvard and University of Phoenix…”
-much more for entertaining purposes, you know it as well as I do. Definitely not for the major decision making. My kid had no trouble, she did not think about Med. School at all while choosing her UG. Why to even consider if you have 4 years ahead of you that you absolutely need to spend at the place that would fit you as perfectly as possible, it is FOUR MOST IMPORTANT YEARS of your life, personal growth is unbelievable, you will be making lots of decisions on your own, family will not be involved, you will not have a chance to discuss some issues with them. You need to be at the place where you can be at HOME so to speak. I do not understnad how others can tell you which one, simply not possible.

We have a bingo!!

Edit: And research, too!!

If Rice wasn’t located in flyover country, and even worse, the southern tier of flyover country, it would be a top 10 school. :)

Miami,

100% agree with you, that’s why I even wrote a point 9 in my (with help from kristin) “read this before posting” thread. When I applied to college I was actually 100% sure I would NOT be going to med school, let alone not using it as a factor in my decision.

Main St runs along Rice. On Main St there are about 7 hospitals side by side - including MD Anderson Cancer Center. Lots of volunteering, shadowing, etc opps.

^And my D’s University did NOT even have a Medical School at all. More so, most pre-meds at her UG were Zoology major, including her. Even much more so, she personally has chosen a volunteering (several years commitment) that was not common at all among pre-meds, very unusual and did NOT have any other pre-meds on volunteering staff except for my D. Why she disregarded all these fact, did she make a bad choice? Nope. Tremendous experience that was discussed at most of her Med. School interviews as unusual but at the same very valuable for the future Med. Student. And again why in a world she has chosen to spend so much time doing that unpaid activity. Strictly for personal curiosity and desire to improve where she was already very strong. The most satisfying experience of this activity was saving one person’s life (according to the feedback from police).
As I said, do not calculate too much, follow your heart, be open to new opportunities, stay flexible and availble to something that you personally feel you might enjoy and where you can personally grow (aside from Medical school). It wil work and no matter what happen to you in 4 year, you greatly enrich your life. Isn’t it the main purpose of everything that we do?

Ummm…I am confused. Didn’t your D apply to and attend the program at Miami that guaranteed her med school admittance? I would think that means she was thinking of med school while applying to college.
