Feeling A Little Discouraged

First off let me say I am currently a Junior, not a senior. Yale has been my dream school since middle school but I slowly feel that dream being pulled away. Reading the stat thread of people who were accepted is shocking and makes me feel like i have no chance. Also a friend of mine, who is a senior, applied on a whim and got accepted, so i've been trying to show support for her, but the envy is killing me. I just want to explain my circumstances and see if anyone can give me any piece of hope.

My grades and extracurriculars are very similar to my friend (her gpa is prolly .5 higher than me) but she is also 25% native american. So I feel like my stats, in addition to being a white male, spell out doom for my application next year. Basically, i just feel like i've wanted to go to yale for so long, but in the end, i won't be good enough. PS i'm applying SCEA.

It’s a mistake to fall in love with one school. You obviously are a good student who should go to college. What is your plan for if you don’t get into Yale? I ask this because the important thing is not where you go but that you go.

While your friend applied on a whim, the fact is that there are so few NA candidates that can succeed at the level of a school like Y, that they have a much better chance for admission than anyone else–white, black, Asian or Hispanic.

It’s great to hear you’re trying to support your friend despite your feelings, that says more about you than an acceptance to ANY school in the country does.

Yale is hardly the best school out there. I’m sure you can find one you like just fine; remember, you have over 3,000 to choose from!

Well i definately plan on going to college  I am also applying to Harvard,
Cornell, Colgate, Case Western Reserve University, Oberlin, Stanford, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY UB, and University of Rochester.
I really love Yale, but I guess if i don’t get in i won’t be too crushed!
I guess i just don’t quite get the race thing because yeah she is NA but she has had a typical life. She isn’t involved in NA culture or anything. But i’m happy for her regardless, and if she goes, this just means i get to visit Yale often :)

Well i’ll be utterly crushed, but i’ll still go to college and i’m sure i’ll love it
