Anyone ever been a fencer at Brown? Anyone know about fencing opportunities at Brown?

I have lots of fencer friends at Brown -- I'd be happy to put you in touch with one or more of them if you like. Our fencing team is pretty good, as I hear.

That would be great. I'd like to chat with them.

My daughter fences at Brown. She loves the coach and her teammates. The team had their best season in quite a while last year, not on the level of, say, Penn, but encouraging.

What weapon do you do? Male or female?

I'll have her send you an email or you can email me with specific questions. She is finishing up an archaeological field school in Bolivia this week so it won't be until August.

Brown finished 29th in the national rankings in 2006:

MEN'S FENCING: Finished ninth at national championships; Dan Mahoney was sixth in the saber.

WOMEN'S FENCING: Finished seventh at nationals and competed in the Ivy League for first time; Ruth Schneider became Brown's first All-Ivy fencer.

hi nycfan!

patch, you are very lucky, I am in fact one of the members of the Brown Fencing team.

This was indeed our first season in the Ivy League. Previously we were considered not good enough to compete (the Ivy league is the #1 conference in the nation by far) In our debut year, we beat Yale, thus proving our right to be in the conference. This year looks like we'll do even better. Before we competed (and we still do for fun i guess) in the NFC, which contains schools like Brandeis, MIT, UNH (i forget, Brandeis and MIT are the only other good schools in the league) we've had several team members on all-NFC teams the past few years, and so I guess that's why we finally got invited to the ivy league.

Coach Tass is great, although I would like to see him be less of a nice guy and more of a hard ass. He puts alot of the burden of motivation on the captains.

Practices were from 5:30-7:30pm mon-fri, and I assume they are going to stay that way (although nothing is certain, in 04-05 there were morning practices, but I hope it doesnt go back to that)

It's a really great team, you'll have a lot of fun.

Byerly, where are you getting your info, Mahoney didn't go to nationals, are you looking at IFA results?
