Few questions

Okay so my first question is do you think I will get in or not? I go a well-respected private school in Massachusetts, I have a 3.6 gpa (on a 4.0 scale), 1710 on my SATS (620 on math and 600 on reading), good community service and good extracurriculars.

My next question is do you think I have an increased chance of getting in if I apply as undeclared, or applying with a major. I plan on majoring in biochemistry/chemical engineering, and I was wondering if it would help if during my senior year I took some electives that supported that major?

My son is in a simlilar postion and scores - his GPA is a bit lower - around a 3.5. I think from what I have seen, you are both borderline. The OOS applicant seems to have a higher threshold for acceptance from what I have seen in my son’s school history with UConn. Our naviance system shows that no one was accepted below 1800 SATs and 3.5 GPA, which is very surprising considering how highly rated and difficult my son’s school is. He is going to apply but is feeling like he might be waitlisted based on historical data.

I do hear that if you apply in October you have a better chance if you are borderline for OOS, but do not have data to back that up.

I think you have a good chance but definitely apply early action. I applied the end of november as an oos applicant from NJ and was accepted with a similar gpa has you and a bit higher SAT scores. As long as you took alot of honors and AP classes you should be in good standing. I attended a top 10 public school in NJ which definitely helped and I know there were a decent amount of people who were wait listed this year.
