Hi,
I am going for an interview for this scholarship. I was wondering whether we bring reccomendations or not, i remember specifically seeing that we were not supposed to bring reccomendations.

I was also wondering whether the distribution of invites was determined by major and the different levels of the pools.

Finally, I read somewhere that UCLA Regent's is 1.5 percent of the applicant pool. Doesn't that make UCLA Regent's alot more selective than UC Berkeley's? I didn't get UCLA btw.

about the letters, here's the exerpt from the USPHO Regents email:
...Scholarship Recipient Selection

A faculty committee selects Scholarship recipients based on information the applicant supplied in the admissions application, the interview discussion, and optional letters of recommendation. (Candidates submit optional letters of recommendation only to the interviewing professor at time of interview.)

Guess it can't hurt to bring letters; I think I'm definitely going to

If you want the scholarship I would certainly bring them. I was debating it, but ended up handing over a rec that I knew was amazing to the prof who interviewed me. I think thats the reason I got the scholarship!

I cut and pasted that bit about the rec letters exactly from the official email that uspho@berkeley.edu sent me....it's the one telling students that they are prospective Regents candidates. The bit about the rec letters are towards the end of the email, so perhaps you didn't see it...?

The email begins with:
Dear montecristo09,

Congratulations!

On behalf of the faculty at UC Berkeley, I am pleased to notify you of your candidacy for the Regents and Chancellors Scholarship. This award is the most prestigious offered to the entering class by Cal, one of the worlds premier learning and research universities. Benefits include prestige, a monetary award, guaranteed on-campus housing, a Faculty Sponsor, membership (optional) in the Regents' and Chancellor's Scholar's Association, and financial aid advising.

Aww, does this mean that if I haven't gotten an e-mail then I'm not a candidate? : (

For those of you that are, what are your stats? I have been searching all over and can't get a good idea of what a Berkeley Regent's candidate is like in terms of academics.

dylpkls91: You can check out my profile for my stats; I'm not big on posting them up haha. I'll say >2300, 7 APs at the end of junior year, 800 community service hours (those are my biggies :) )
I first received the Regents notification by email, and then a package was mailed to me.

So if I haven't gotten Berkeley Regent's by now then I shouldn't expect to? I have a 3.9UW/4.4W GPA, 2210 SAT, 32 ACT, one 3 AP and two 5 APs... ELC, CA resident...

dylpkls91: No idea. Maybe you should ask them if the email got lost or something? You seem like a good candidate..
I haven't heard anything from UCLA, and I didn't apply to Davis.

UCLA regents invite came out around Jan 20, think letter was dated the 23rd and we find out if we actually are regents scholars @ time of admission
& you find out if you get davis regents @ time of admission also; they don't notify you beforehand that you are being considered like UCLA/Berk

think they say something like "congrats regents scholar" on your status page

berk also sends a packet of info with like the overnight stay information and official letter telling you that you are being considered...my friend got the packet but no email and she called and they said they dunno what happened to the email but she is a regents candidate so maybe that what happened to you?
good luck :)

I didn't get regents for UCLA either, but I did get one for Berkeley. Only 3 students, including me, at my school are being interviewed for regents at Cal. I think only one person from my school was invited for regents for UCLA
