Few things

We can only take two APs in Junior year, but they didnt let me into either. (My gpa was too low) My gpa is a 3.2.

Junior year classes
Spanish 3
American Lit
Chemistry
Contemporary Media/Psychology
Religion
US History
Advanced Algebra 2

My school has very little class options. I am happy that I am in Adv. Alg 2 though, I struggle with Math, but if I work hard, then I do alright. :) I want to take yearbook and newspaper, but I cant because they are both before school classes, and Im already taking Spanish 3 before school.

I dont do any sports because I dont like sports.

We have a few clubs, spanish, science, kiwins, drama, and amnesty international. Thats it! (All girls private high school.)

I have no EC's. I will probably be joining spanish, science, and kiwins clubs this year. But I dont know what else I can do!

Im interested in English, which will probably be my major. As I already said, I would take newspaper and yearbook but I cant.

There is nothing to do where I live. I want to do things Im interested in, but I have little options!

So, a 3.2 gpa (Im doing better this year) and no EC's, how will I get into college?

The colleges Im look at are; Reed, Colby, Whitman and a few others. Swarthmore. All of those seem out of my reach.

So what to do? How do I find EC's?

are there things in your community you could do?

dunno bout ur colleges, but just find something u like for ec's. If there's no ec's u like in ur school, then try and make a club. Who knows? I was able to start a videogame club for my school.

Not that I can think of. Our teen center is very pathetic. There is nothing to do. Its things like, movie mondays or xbox tournaments...

And I also have a lack of transportation. I cant drive yet, and I have a carpool from school.

We cant start clubs at my school...

Its a very blah school. I didnt want to go there.

My friends at other schools have tons of stuff that they can do!

when will you get your license?

Im taking the test for my permit this week. So my license, probably Feb.

can you be a manager for a sport?

at my school a couple of kids manage each sport, they keep score and give the athletes water and stuff.

I dont think we can...

Im not trying to be difficult here. lol

lol.

i guess my advice is try to become a leader in your clubs that you can do.

wow someone should say something about that school rule, "you can only take 2 aps"
isn't that sort of the student's decision?

Its not a rule exactly.. Just, only two are offered.

Few people can take 3. If they are in Spanish 4.

But most can only take AP eng lang. and APush.

Andrea, thanks for your help :)

I think what was meant is that the school only offers 2 ap classes for juniors.

My advice: do an EC that you can do on your own. Not impossible:
- look for online classes of some sort
- write editorials or articles that you can submit to your local paper and maybe get published
- take up a hobby and invite friends over to share it with you, as a sort of out-of-school club. maybe take up quilting, and donate your quilts to the needy
- get a job

Cure cancer. Twice.

See if you can write or copyedit for the school newspaper even if you don't take the class. Typically, lots of student newspaper writers don't make deadline and are too lazy to edit, so if you're willing to help out in those ways, the staff and advisor may be happy to have you.

I'm not an expert on the colleges that you listed, but I think that they all would be distant reach schools even if you bring your average up this year.

You can probably find good match and reach schools by looking at second tier schools according to the list that US News puts out each year. Perhaps your safety can be a third tier university.

Most colleges don't pay a lot of attention to ECs, but are very interested in your grades, scores and class rank. The colleges that do focus a lot on ECs are some of the nation's most competitive: Harvard, and similar colleges that get to choose among an overabundance of high stat applicants.

The colleges that care about ECs are impressed by depth, impact and awards. Memberships without those things do not impress them.

i recomend that you sponsor a blood drive at your school. it is a very simple and noteworthy EC that the school should allow. im not sure if your school is too small or not but if it is, you might have to set up for a weekend so the public can come too. www.givelife.org for details.

Northstarmom

I can try that.

Yes, they would probably still be reaches :( But Im really considering ED for Reed or Colby!

Second tier schools? All I remember seeing is the National Univesities and the LAC's. goes to take another look

Oh, and Im looking for small colleges with a great english program. And Im sorta considering classics (Latin/Greek) too.

They dont? I thought EC's matter alot... I doubt I will be applying to the Ivies. ;)

And, Im going to try and get a good SAT score, and Im really focusing on getting good grades this year. My rank is 93 out of two hundred something. Top 33 % I think.

I think we do have one in April...
