So, I've spent the last week basically trying to think of a good essay topic, and I think I've finally got it. The problem is that... well it's fantastic... as in... involving fantasy. The story by itself is obviously fiction, incorporating magical elements, but perhaps may be categorized better as magical realism, as all the characterizations are real and the sole magical element (which is at the center of the story) is representative of real events. Do you guys think that's okay?

Well does it tie into diversity, growing up or teamwork in any way

Personal essays are way better usually

It ties into growing up and represents a major epiphany of sorts. I'd say that the story it tells is very representative of my junior year as a whole, but that trying to tell it as a personal narrative would be hard and writing a personal essay would probably come out very constrained and trite.

So it's sort of an analogy?

That could work

I think this sounds like a possibility. I mean, it's only August, so if you write it and then go "oh darn, that's awful!" you have plenty of time to recover as long as you get started right now.
just make it clear where reality ends and the fantasy begins.

I was at first thinking your were going to be writing self-insertion fanfic or something, and I was going to be like NO don't do it!

I could imagine writing an essay about me flying above my town, or maybe time traveling, or doing stuff like that. I think it would be pretty good. well, it would be good if someone else did it. I'm a pretty terrible writer myself. grrr.

I think that if you made it abundantly clear or wrote it alongside of a general idea of what really happened in junior year, it could become something fantastic. I did that with a paper I had to write for English because the subject at hand was so difficult to write about and it ended up being the best piece of writing I'd ever written.

Just don't go overboard and I think you'll be fine :) That's a really original topic!
