Fighting chance?

Everyone tells me I should get into these school but I keep thinking I won't after seeing the grades you guys have, tell me what you think.

GPA is almost 3.7 from a failry unknown 4 yr school in 2 yrs
HS GPA was only a 3.5
SAT 1200 but I doubt they care much for it
ECs in college were very few but in hs I had a bunch of activites (sports, tutor, etc), nothing great though like president or captain.
My essays are really good I think b/c I wrote a lot of nice things about their school and my passion for my major
3 recs I'll send, mostly avg recs tho
My classes are very tough I think, I covered many ares, my problem is a C but I have explained that.

Let me know what you think for

Upenn (big reach but worth a shot)
Cornell
WashU
Mich St (safe)
Boston (safe)
Ross at Mich
Tufts
North Carolina Ch Hill
Columbia

Honestly?

Accepted: Mich St, Boston U
Rejected: UPenn, WashU, Columbia, Cornell, Ross
Maybe: Tufts, UNC-CH

The competition is horrendous out there. I wish you the best.

Yea that's exactly what I had actually, I'll be happy with getting in to atleast 3-4 that's all I need, I am expecting about 5 rejections atleast but I may get more. It would be great if somebody would rate my chance for each school like Boston U (yes,9/10), or Penn(no,2/10), etc, if not any honest opinion is great.

from what I've learned on here, you really need to make yourself stand out NOW, not highschool. you aren't transfering from high school so they need to see who you are and what you have become. that would be a key factor in what might hold you back in my opinion. your grades are pretty good and those schools will look at SAT scores. I'd say you have a fairly good chance at MSU and BU, maybe UNC-CH but the business school there is fairly cut throat. make a case for yourself and maybe you can pull that. also, I'm not sure the schools want to hear about themselves too much but if you have faith in your essays you prob incorporated everything in there. good luck to you though!

yea I think my essays are pretty good, I forgot to mention I also applied to Gerorgetown, I did 10 schools. With Georgetown I was really political with the foreign service essay and sorta ripped Mossad, I hope that won't be held against me. From what I'm hearing it looks like only 2 schools I'll get into, I'm hoping for like 4-5 though so maybe.

where else did you apply?

The 9 schools I put in the first post of the topic and G'town, I know 10 schools is a lot but still I think it gives me a better chance of getting in somewhere really good.

whoops, I forgot to check up top, I even told you what I thought for each of them! shows I need some more sleep.

what school are you at now??

transfer student, you are such a prestige whore. I dont even believe that you want to transfer into ILR...u just applied because of their transfer rate. I am positive after seeing this thread.

I reccomend viewers to no longer encourage this behavior (by giving them chances) and stop feeding the chances thread

to transfer student: it is okay to be a prestige whore... anyone on this forum who claims not to be one, clearly is in denial... With that said, just breathe. You will get what you get... and honestly, transferring has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the college/university. Remember, you could be the most qualified student, but you are the one asking to go there. You are the one who wants to leave his/her school. Therefore, they do not have to take you. So just breathe, you probably will get at least one acceptance.

If not, other schools STILL have deadlines if you do not like your school that much...

It is NOT okay to be a prestige whore. Who ever said it is? Maybe to some extent. But relatively all prestige whores hardly ever consider other factors in terms of size, location, and weather. Columbia and Cornell and totally different schools. The same can be said for Tufts and Boston U. It is clear that "transferstudent" has not done his homework and will most likely end up being a transfer student for another 2 extra years after he transfers to another school.

I am applying to schools that differ in size, location, weather, cost, admissions and more but it doesnt mean I didn't do my research. because the original poster wants a good school WITH name recognition, you jump on his/her case. why do you care if someone you don't know likes the idea of prestige so much?

because a few days later after they transfer, they come clogging up the boards asking for another chance thread! They should have learned their lesson the first time. Some people just take for granted the chance to transfer.

I guess you have seen it alot but you can't automatically assume. I have big names and small names in my "apply to" list but it doesn't mean someone else might like the big names only.

if you check his list, all of it are big names..

...I know, thats what I basically just said.

I mean, if you CAN get into a 'prestige' school, why not?
i don't see why you would refuse to go unless you have other specific
reasons (i.e. weather, class size ...etc)
(i personally didn't apply to UC's, where i had the most chance of getting in, because i knew i'd hate the environment there..)

although i agree that it wouldn't be so nice to chase after the name all the time
i don't see why not otherwise...
it all depends on the person :)
let's all cool down

What does it matter to you mojojojo69? You are not paying the application fee. You are not writing the essays. You are not paying the tuition. Instead of criticizing, why don't you just help? That is the purpose of this forum, not to berate users about their reasons for transferring.

why do you care if i care? now that is a good question!
