Hello.
I am a senior in high school trying to build their college list. I know for a fact I am going to apply undecided as I do not know what I want to study. I live in Georgia but do not want to stay in state. Some of y’all might recommend Georgia State, but before you do that I want to say that I have already visited and I do not plan on going there. So with that said here are some of the classes that I took these past three years (btw I have no extracurriculars because I am extremely shy)
- AP World History
- AP Psychology
- AP Lang
(only took ap test for psych and lang)
Senior year (this year)
- AP gov/politics
-AP Spanish
-AP Lit

Location wise I don’t care if it is close or too far. Go ahead and name international schools while you’re at it if you have any personal experience studying abroad. I would totally do that If I could. I like the cold so that isn’t an issue for me, in the contrary I dislike warmer and humid climates.
I want to go somewhere where I would have lots of options of exploring all kinds of classes. I’ve seen some stuff about exploratory programs but I don’t know much about it. So if someone could explain that would be appreciated. If you guys know of any interesting classes that other schools don’t have please list them. They would definitely stand out more.
Money wise i have no college fund so I would need to get scholarships. I do meet the requirements for the hope scholarship. I know someone mentioned to me that some out of state schools do accept that as well.
Hobbies I don’t have any really. I am just a big marvel fan and read from time to time. I like music and I speak two languages. If there is a school that teaches ASL I think that would be interesting to learn.
Gpa and test scores? Class rank? We have no idea what kind of student you are from what you wrote.
You say you need scholarships. How much can your family afford? Have you run any NPCs on college websites? To get merit aid you need to apply to schools where your stats are far above average.

Also, what major are you interested in?
You’re missing a lot of information in your post. Please look at the standard format posted here: How to post a Chance Me or Match Me (reverse chance me) thread -- START HERE
You went to school, came home, did homework and then what? Did you watch TV, listen to music, draw, play video games? Did you work or have any responsibilities at home (ex. cooking dinner)?
Yes I had responsibilities to attend to. Unlike other people who are fortunate enough to have someone who can drive them to and from school in order to go to clubs I did not. There is a single parent in the house so I wasn’t able to go to many places or school social events. I did my homework ( I have a 4.0 gpa), read, and yes I like watching tv.

Like I said before I am an introverted person, and don’t have many friends due to it. But that is why I would like to branch out and try different things this year and in my time in college

It sounds like you are ready to bloom in college.
This page lists all of the colleges that offer 100% need. Many of them understand that some families do not have the means to overcome barriers to access some ECs like you mention. You can run the net price calculator to see what aid you may qualify for.
Talk to your high school counselor about some things that may be available for you to help with to start to get you out of your comfort zone before you are away at college. There may be some things you can do during the school day next year.
You can definitely find some opportunities for study abroad options, but based on what you have said 4 years overseas would be very expensive, so I do not suggest that.
My point is, focus on what you did rather that what you didn’t do.
You do have hobbies - Marvel and music. I’m sure there are other things that interest you as well.

Household responsibilities, especially being in a single parent household ARE ECs. Do you have responsibilities beyond regular chores? For example, do you take care of siblings or other relatives while your parent is at work, or were you responsible for all the cooking? It’s all in how you present the information.
On another note, my own DD wrote about her love of Marvel comics/movies in some of her college essays; again, it’s all about how you present the information

thank you! In my school they haven’t told us to look into any specific scholarships. if anyone knows where I can look into real scholarships and not fake ones please mention them!
The vast majority of scholarships and aid will come from the colleges you are accepted to as part of your offer. Some may be tied to a college’s honors college. As an example, my D21 did not apply for additional scholarships at a few colleges, but her offers included combinations of scholarships, grants, and some loans (at some schools). For many lower income families with high achieving students, private schools that meet need can be less than their instate schools.
Some colleges have additional rounds of scholarship applications you are invited to , but in those rounds they are many times looking for leadership, community involvement, or extra curriculars with impact (look at NC State’s Park Scholarships for an example of those.) You will want to manage those deadlines if you apply for any of those.
There are lots of smaller scholarships you can apply to and those can help. Look at a legit list on College Board: Search for Scholarships – BigFuture | College Board
The colleges on the list I shared earlier would not need additional scholarships most likely because they meet 100% of demonstrated need. Run the net price calculators for different colleges to get an estimate of what that may look like for you.
And please apply to at least a couple instate colleges just to have that option if you need it.
If your parents are divorced, will both be cooperative with financial aid forms and paying?
If not, then colleges that require both of their financial information for financial aid are likely to be financially inaccessible if you need financial aid. This includes most of the colleges known for the best need based financial aid. Chicago and Vanderbilt could be exceptions.
The Hope will NOT cover your costs to attend OOP publics or private universities. Full stop. The Hope WILL cover a decent portion of costs at your GA instate public universities.
And with divorced parents, that complicates the need based aid picture. MOST colleges that meet full need for all accepted students require financials from both your custodial and non-custodial parent. Their awarding of need based aid is based on this info from both of your parents. Also, if your non-custodial parent is married, that spouse’s info will also be needed. As noted University of Chicago and Vandy are exceptions…although Vandy reserves the right to request non-custodial parent info,
You need to very very much consider affordability. An acceptance without being able to pay is like a rejection. You won’t be able to go to that college.
I know you want to leave Georgia, but please keep an open mind.
Have you taken the SAT or ACT? Some schools will require this. If you haven’t taken it, why not.
