Fill in the School report as an international student

Hey,

Since I am a student from Germany, I am uncertain how my school counselor should fill in my CommonApp school report. Many of the questions of the school report can't be referred to the German school system. For example, how demanding the courses were, that I took, or if my GPA is weighted or not.
Do you now how I should handle this?

Answer them as good as you can, and omit questions that don’t apply.

For example, your GPA is unweighted. (A weighted GPA would count a 2 from a Leistungskurs like a 1 from a Grundkurs since LKs are supposedly harder…) Your course load is “most demanding” (if you are doing the Abitur). Your school offers no AP, IB or Honors courses. Where the school report asks for a list of your current courses with level, distinguish between Grundkurse and Leistungskurse. Where it asks for course credit values, use 1 for a full-year course and 0.5 for a half-year course.

Where the school report asks about class rank, you have two options. If you happen to be at the top of your class, it would help you if that got stated explicitly. For example, the school report might say that you are ranked #1 or #2 in your class, or that you are in the top 10%. If you are not in the top 10%, don’t report a class rank. Just say that your school doesn’t rank and leave that section blank. (The way that college admission data are reported to the public, anything in the top 10% is good and anything below the top 10% bad. Kinda silly but there it is. Many private schools in the US don’t report a class rank because that would hurt most of their students…)

hey b@ar!um,
thank you so much for your helpful reply! But isn’t my GPA weighted, because in the final Abiturnote, Leistungskurse are multiplied by 3, before they are included in the calculation of the final grade.
