I don’t see any indication from the website that Williams has a film or media studies program. Does it offer classes in those areas?
There’s film classes but no film major. The vibe I got from around campus was that while they don’t have a film studies program currently, they’re looking to implement one, but, honestly, I wouldn’t hold my breath over it. If you want to go to a LAC with solid program in film, Wesleyan is probably a better choice.
Thanks very much for that, DressingIron. That was my sense of it.
Wesleyan or Vassar also
Wesleyan hands down. Vassar’s program is adequate, but Wesleyan’s is now world ranked.
Keep in mind that Wesleyan’s film program is so popular among Wesleyan students (many who take it as a second major), that they can’t accommodate all the students who want to do it. At the moment they handle it by requiring two prerequisite classes and a grade of a B+ or higher in each. If you get less than that in either class you can appeal for admission to a committee but it’s not a sure thing. People pursuing the major are turned away each year. So you need to be confident in your ability to perform in those classes if you are committed to this major.
Thanks, citivas. Very good information.
