film program/chances @ UCSC

I was wondering how strong the film program is at UCSC and how well of a chance out-of-state students have at UCSC.

Here are just a few of my stats:

Hispanic female from Kentucky
3.4 GPA UW; Top 40%
SAT: 1710 (just got it today, very dissapointed) ACT: 28
APs: Human Geo-4, AP Psych-?, AP Art History-?

So far I've taken all Advanced and AP classes, and my senior year schedule looks like this:

CP Physics
Advanced English IV
CP Journalism II: Yearbook II
AP Art History
CP Statistics
Advanced Creative Writing (1/2)
CP Public Speaking (1/2)
Religion: Life Choices (1/2)
Religion: Sacred Questions (1/2)

CP is like a dual credit thing with the local university, so it's right under AP in terms of difficulty.

I have many EC's, am a strong athlete, and even have a few awards for certain technology things. Microsoft has even taken one of my projects and is currently debating whether or not to use it as a demo for one of their projects on its website.

Anyways, that's me in a nutshell. So do I have a chance? The only thing I'm worried about is that during my freshman year I received a D in Algebra. My lowest grade ever during one of my hardest years (emotionally) ever, so it wasn't due to slacking off. Anyways, give me your opinion! I'd really like to know what everyone thinks.

the film program is strong, but very competitive and sometimes it's hard to get the classes you want until you have a higher class stading.

i can't really rate your chances.

Definitely apply to UCSC. It has a good film department which is getting better. The major advantage UCSC offers over other schools is that undergraduates are involved in many projects which would be restricted to graduate students elsewhere. This is absolutely the case for the performing arts.

I can't rate your chances. My suspicion is that your status as an out of state Hispanic will improve them. You certainly look good, but a conversation with the faculty speaker at my son's graduation from Cowell College at UCSC indicated that standards are rapidly rising. 3-4 years ago you would certainly have been admitted. Now I'm not so sure.
