My goal is to transfer to film school. My top choice is USC. My community college offers a non transfer degree in tv
production. My dad got me kind of worried and said I should get a transfer degree in english or something more
practical saying that film schools will want a student with a fresh slate and more academics. Do you think thats true?
I really am in no rush to leave community college; I planned on staying 3 years to get 3 associates degrees. Humanities, Tv Production , and English. But my dad said just to do two years and get an english degree. i really want to stay an extra year but would getting 3 degrees hurt my chances with any film school in general. p.s I want to go to usc for screenwriting
If you want to study screenwriting, getting an associates in English makes more sense than getting one in TV production. Go to the website for USC, UCLA, and other strong schools in your field, like Chapman. Look up their transfer admission info. That includes the rules for getting into the screenwriting major as a transfer, including what’s needed for samples/portfolio.
The colleges in CA tend to have extremely strict rules re: what classes you need to take, how many credits, etc. to transfer to them. Learn what’s needed now, and use that to guide re: what classes to take at your community college.
