Anyone have any thoughts on the FTT program? I couldn’t find any posts except for one from last year that went unanswered.
S19 is a Questbridge CPS (hopefully finalist next year) aspiring to be a screenwriter/film director/ showrunner. He wants to work in LA post grad. He’ll apply to USC and UMich. He isn’t interested in film school rankings, just quality academic rigor and sports (football and rah rah spirit).
I’ve email the faculty and received great information. I’d like to hear from alumni or anyone else.
I am not sure whether you have come across this in your exploration, but it may give you some useful insight into the program from a student perspective.

Thanks @1irish1
I haven’t seen that til now. I read through most of her information, some of it was helpful in gaining a better understanding of the FTT program.
By and large, I don’t get the sense the program would be a good fit for an aspiring film director. I’ll keep researching.
I love ND’s FTT department, and your son would likely get a lot of personalized attention as the department is pretty small (small enough that I know the woman whose blog was mentioned!). I have more experience with the Theater part of FTT. If you get involved and get to know professors, many doors can open; I’ve gotten backstage to Broadway shows and had paid theater gigs due to connections with the FTT department, and I’m not even a declared major!
However, the university is not particularly known for this department, and may not provide as many post grad opportunities. If your son is really serious about film and ND isn’t his absolute dream school, this might not be the right place as it doesn’t have the same industry connections as other places. People often double major with FTT and something else; marketing is particularly popular. If your son loves ND, he can probably make the FTT department work for him if he knows what he wants from the experience.
Thanks @lovethekiller ! (6 months later!)
Honestly, we took ND and FTT off the list of schools. But it’s back on now. Common App answers are done, after a couple more tweaks. Turns out his profile is a good fit for ND, hopefully he gets in.
