Film Transfer

Hey everybody!
I'm about to finish up my sophomore year as an acting/drama student at NYU Tisch. I'm wanting to transfer to the film department at Tisch (or, really, to any other good program at other universities). It's too late to transfer for the 2012-2013 year, so it'd have to be for the 2013-2014 school year; the year that would be my senior year.

So, I guess my question is: Has anybody here transferred (or attempted to transfer) into their film department from a completely different department? Any stories, successful or not, would be increeeeedibly helpful. Like, how easy is it to transfer, how hard, how competitive, what they expect going in...etc etc. For Tisch or otherwise.

Sorry for being so vague and everything, but thanks for the help!!

Hey there! It’s so strange to read your post and have recently gone through the same thing. In fact/ we might actually know each other. I was in both Playwrights and Atlantic before leaving the Drama department and taking 3 academic semesters until i was finally accepted as a JUNIOR transfer this year. I applied to Film, at the end of my first year for a Sophomore transfer, but was rejected–– I didn’t let that stop me, I took both Sight and SOund Film and Sight and Sound Doc over the summer, and all film classes in the Fall through Open Arts/ you’re also allowed to take a max two classes in film as a non-major. In the spring of this year I again re-applied to Film, and took all film courses so it CAN be done. I would HIGHLY recommend you take film classes over the summer–since you’d have to start then anyways as all transfers are required– and keep a high GPA, that was a factor in my initial rejection. Good luck, and know that only about 2 people from Drama transfer into Film each year.
