When will film applicant hear back? Lots of kids at my school have gotten into other majors scholarships) but no film people yet....

My son heard in Jan. that he got into film prod. at c/tv, interviewing for trustee.

Yeah, I heard late January that I got into Film Production at CNTV interviewing for a presidential scholarship.

So... are the acceptances over...?

Augh.

the only acceptances in cntv i've heard about are here...pres/trustee scholarship types. maybe they need to let them know early? the cntv docs all say the acceptances come by April 1. so there's still time, don't worry :-)

I was accepted to Film Production, I think it was the first week in February. I'm interviewing for a presidential scholarship.

Hey divad (and other folks already accepted into Film Production),

Could you post your details (SAT/GPA/portfolio etc)? It may help our unlucky people (who have yet to hear from CTNV whether we are accepted or not) to estimate our chances.

Chris, The Netherlands.

Has anyone heard of anyone being accepted into the Writing for Screen and Television program yet?

Mel & Divad ~ I'd like to second the suggestion that cruesli made...could you post stats for your son and yourself, respectively? The usual is SAT I, SAT II, unweighted GPA, that sort of thing...

SAT I - highest combined score is 2230 (790 Writing, 730 Critical reading, 710 Math)
Unweighted GPA - 4.0
I've done musical theater since I was eight years old, and I've played the piano all my life.
I only had a page for my portfolio list. I listed the three short films I've made, graphic design stuff I've done, theater roles, duct tape jacket, wallet, hat, belt, and tie, etc.
I had 3 or 4 letters of recommendation which were pretty strong.
For my personal statement, I wrote my obituary, so they may have liked that...

Divad ~ LOL, that was creative!

Son accepted in film production:
SAT I: highest combined 2230; M760 CR690 W780
SATII: MathI 700, MathII 640, Lit 730
ACT: comp 30
UW GPA:3.6, W 4.17
most rigorous curriculum, very competitive private high school
3 letters of rec.; I think a teacher who wrote one for the regular usc admissions wrote a second one specific to film school; Portfolio- 1 page, describing 3 short films he did on school/community service projects, a poem, a game he made

One thing film admissions mentioned is that successful applicants tend to have a specific theme running throughout their materials and recommendations...and that they look at everything to see how well that person uses personal experience to convey his/her storytelling ability. Good luck to everyone!

I still haven't heard any screenwriting acceptances. Does anyone know of any?

i thought i saw one person post s/w. but i can't recall which thread. with the film depts, they run late on acceptance because they have portfolios to review, but also, they take so few people that it's possible no one here might get it. production is about only 50 students, and writing a little more, and CS a little more that that, i think. they probably get atleast a couple thousand apps (everyone wants to be a film student). so one post here might be a substantial percentage. not to be discouraging (i'm waiting, too) but for film i think you just have to wait for your letter to come...too many variables, too subjective. hang in there!

I agree. Unforutnately with writing though, it's only 24 kids undergraduate tops.

I just want USC to let me know I'm admitted! I'd go even without the screenwriting.

24????????? i don't think i can divide to that many decimal places LOL. well - math not being my strength, i would suggest you think of it as a 1 in 24 shot. sounds better :-)

Hah, you're right. It's SO competitive. I tried to be very original in my application in order to stand out. I actually called the writing department today to check my application status, and the guy wasn't able to tell me anything. I'm getting the feeling that writing takes the longest to evaluate because so few students are accepted, and they need to eliminate and review so many.

I think writing may take so long because it has the most extensive requirements for writing samples. I haven't heard about any screenwriting people getting in yet, so I wouldn't be too worried yet.

Thank you, I'm hanging in there.

Speaking of film... is it true that USC students are seat fillers at the Oscars? (Like when the winners/speakers go up, people take their seats so that when the camera pans to the audience, the seats are full)

One of my friends was telling me about this, but I'm not sure if it was that other school, UC**, that got to do this.
