Fin Aid. Am I the only one not qualified?

Everyone on these threads seem to be making less than 30k, which is okay. But I live with my parents, am 19, and they make around a little bit over 80k which automatically disqualifies me from the blue and gold plan. Even if they make that much, I have another sibling and 30k for 3 years plus grad school seems to be a lot. How can I even get more grant without having to lie and say that I live with someone else etc ( lots of people do this). Has anyone gotten grants with their families income being more than 80 or close to that?

You won’t be getting that much aid. Probably very little. And don’t lie - because they will find out.

Yeah obviously not lie. But truth is I didnt get ANY aid from USC, and theyre known for giving out lots of aid. If i can’t get any aid from USC how would i get aid from a UC which is half the price.

Your parents make enough money for you to not get anything good besides loans probably. Aside from them paying out of pocket, you’re probably SOL.

SOL? Lol, there has to some trick to getting more aid

I think smltk1505h is right. You’re probably best just getting loans.

And taking loans for undergrad is an idiotic decision. Thanks for your help though

Whoa, hold on, you are posting in the wrong place buddy! The best place to get help is the FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS subforum! Many posters there are people who work for the financial aid offices of schools, or the parents of students who have had both good and bad experiences seeking financial aid. you shouldn’t give up based on the MONOSYLLABIC grunting of random people on the internet before you consult with the experts first!

one thing that no one even mentioned here – your OTHER SIBLING. if she is also in college at the same time as you your ESTIMATED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION may be cut in HALF. This COULD mean that you MIGHT qualify for the Pell Grant and possibly any state aid (I do not know how California does their math though).

I would go to the college you want and use the NET PRICE CALCULATOR. There IS hope but you have to know your exact family circumstances and get more info to see if you can qualify for some financial aid that may make your DREAM of college a reality! DON’T give up until you KNOW that you can’t afford it, crunch the numbers first!

Thanks @Axand238
Can you link me to the subforum?

Ha I meant to do that in my post but I forgot!

Haha no worries! Thanks again

Axand…please give all the facts. This is the UC Forum. The UCs do NOT meet full need…they don’t. Yes, the ECF is divided amongst siblings in college at the same time. BUT there is NO GUARANTEE that this will translate into a nickel of additional aid at any school that does NOT guarantee to meet full need.

And I would post the same thing on the finaid forum.
