finaid for int student? please help!

Hi, so I recently read on one of the cc threads that international students should not apply ED with fin aid...

which was what i was planning to do with my dream school(s)...

my stats are slightly above average right now my weighted gpa is 4 and unweighted is 3.86...

sats... i'm working on it i am aiming for 2150+.

many honors and ap classes

some ec's

if i apply to selective schools like boston college and brandeis, will i get turned down immediately?

thanks in advance for any comments!

i’m also considering many liberal arts schools and seven sisters schools :)

here is rough estimate of how much that I can come up with

family support + loan of some kind + part time job= $15,000 max?

(my family spent a lot on my high school education, and i don’t want to burden the family)

bummmppppp?

BC does not give much if any aid to international students. Brandeis but not the amount u are looking for—I might be wrong, I applied three years ago. Look more into the liberal art colleges

u should check up some top liberal schools such as bates, hamilton, Middlebury etc…
BC doesnt have need-based aid for internationals.

Almighty God, a Nepali student (HS '09) was admitted to Brandeis under the Wien scholarship program and received a full ride.

I know someone from Thailand who got a full ride at Wesleyan (not a school you mentioned, but still very, very selective).

check out university of richmond, they offer a lot of aid

Thanks for all your comments!
I guess I’ll look into more liberal arts schools
I don’t think I’ll qualify for aid at bc or brandeis :P

and also conside some other lower end schools like tufts

^^Tufts is by no means “lower end”. their average SAT scores reveal that

Lol, yeah, how is Tufts low end??

I mean low end universities, low end is relative—low compared to other higher end schools that give international students financial aid like Princeton, harvard, stanford…

like most generous schools are LAC and top colleges. if he or she prefers a university than a LAC, and doesnt have extraordinary scores, then he or she can consider other lower end universities which are exceptional but nnot as competitive as those top schools…God, I cant belive I wasted time explaining this

actually to the contrary, i’ve heard that it’s easier to apply ED/Finaid to LACs

Logically, it is probably no advantage to apply ED. Some colleges don’t even let international fin aid applicants apply ED. Think about this way: the college might only have the resources to provide 10 internationals with financial aid. You can pick 10 out of the 20 who apply ED, or you can pick 10 out of the 500 who apply RD. As a college you want the best and most diverse student body you can get. Sure, if there are two exceptional ED applicants, you might accept them in the ED round to insure they are coming, but those exceptional candidates would have been accepted RD as well. In general a college will want to hold off on the acceptances until they know what their options are.
