So I emailed admissions today to ask if my decision would be posted today and the email said that some decisions will be mailed today and more will be mailed at the end of next week.

That reply contained nothing more informative than their statement that all decisions will be released by the end of April.

Vyse, many schools require committments from new students by May 1. If A&M notifies a applicant on April 30 that they are accepted, the applicant may have already committed to attend another school. Thus, the date that a school notifies an applicant most certainly has an effect on the applicant's decision.

Yes, there is a reason to commit as soon as possible, largely because of the issue of housing. Many schools have a shortage of on-campus housing, and the on-campus housing is gone by early April.

redcircle - my condolences, but it's far from the end of world. With your stats, I would presume that there are plenty of other colleges that were happy to accept you.

My son just told me that he was also placed on the wait list. GPA 3.7, SAT V+M 1150. His school does not rank but he is in the top 10%. We're out-of-state, of course. He has just a few ECs, including a terrific internship, and a few others that both unusual and outstanding. He's not really disappointed, as he has already been accepted to a bunch of other schools that he's very happy with.

what the heck ?!?! my best friend got WAIT LISTED. What does this mean exactly, is this basically saying NO ? Because of May 1st decision dates.
Is getting wait listed better than getting Blinn or Summer ??

gpslouis I am in Texas. By the way, your son's stats, especially his GPA, look terrific. What surprises me is that I've seen many with stats similar to mine who have been accepted. That was why I was hopeful but alas....

By the way you should pursue A&M about the wait list. I've read somewhere that they do admit about 200 students around June (if you can afford to wait that long).

Since the average GPA and SAT scores for UT have, historically, been a bit higher for UT than for A&M, we'd have to look at other factors that would influence the admissions officers' decisions. Probably one or more of the following played a part in the decisions:

(1) UT was more impressed by the applicants' essays than A&M
(2) UT was more impressed by the applicants' ethenticity than A&M
(3) UT was more impressed by the applicants' ECs than A&M
