im positive I've narrowed my schools down. I'm applying for general engineering first year if they have it or civil engineering if the uni asks me for specific engineering.

BE BRUTALLY HONEST

can you guys tell me which ones are matches/reaches/ and which ones i shouldn't even apply to cause its a waste of money..lol

hey man, just wanted to drop by and say thanks for responding to my What are my chances, it really helped me. As someone looking only into California schools, I can only honestly offer my 2 cents in UCB and UCLA as you did for me haha. Us engineers gotta stick together y’know :]

Not entirely sure if you know this, but your first semester of senior year does not count towards your GPA (however your courseload and such is still accounted for). At least for the UC system that is. To be frank, your GPA is a little too low and SAT just about average for Berkeley. I want to say off the top of my head that their average GPA is a little more than a 4.1 with their average SAT ranging from 2000-2100. Of course, personal statements can help with that.
As far as UCLA goes, your stats seem to somewhat match their averages as well with, again, your GPA getting the lower end of the stick but it is not detrimental. I’d say you have a much higher chance of UCLA than UCB, especially with that brutally impacted engineering program they have over there.

It seems that you and me are about in the same area of ECs (I hope you don’t take that offensive) in the sense that they are present and they do show depth, but they don’t show anything outstanding or “holy crap, a kid did that?” I remember reading a What Are My Chances and this kid said he played in the orchestra for the 2012 Beijing Olympics and taught kids in like South America how to play an instrument and STILL wasn’t sure he could get into some UC schools (of course he had pretty nice looking GPA and SATs and such). Ultimately, I would work on your community service hours since that is one of the easiest things, if not the easiest, thing to raise especially with time working against you these next couple of months. Aim to get above 100 hours (i’m sure you know this) because as far as I know, 100+ hours is the “norm” for some of the schools you want to apply for.

I hope I was some help friend :] gl to you and your academic endeavors, and hope you are happy and successful with wherever you end up. cheers.

So I can’t really judge an international student, but i see that you are applying to nearly all the same schools as I am, so I can help you with that. As a California student myself, I would say that UCB is a lot more competitive than what is stated above (either that, or my school is insanely difficult, meaning fewer people get in cause of class rank). Do you by any chance know what your class rank is? If you have a decently high class rank, like top 25% or better top 10% you’d have a higher chance of getting into your Cali schools.

I would say that your classes show that you’re geared towards engineering, but did you do anything like a science fair or something? You still have 2 months before UC apps are due, and at least 3 months before regular apps are. I’d say you should really do something during these months. My recommendation would be to scrap volunteering, and instead plan on retaking the SAT, for a 2100, and maybe taking some engineering classes at a local community college if at all possible. In my county they allow hs students to take community classes for free, i’m not sure how it is in Canada, but either way it’s worth the money.

Overall, I would say you have a really decent shot at all of these except penn state, carnegie mellon (it has a ridiculously low engineering acceptance rate), UCB, and maybe NYU (you don’t seem to fit into the business aspect very well of it).

I really want to help you (you chanced me), but I really have no idea on the selectiveness of engineering schools - I wouldn’t be able to put any insight for you. Sorry :(

Your GPA is below the average of 3.89 (unweighted) and 4.39 (weighted). Your SAT is a little below the average of 2170. If you are OOS and full pay, then you have better chances.

Engineering schools are very hard to get into, Georgia tech, Carnegie Mellon and UCB are very hard and expensive schools to get into. If possible, try and retake the SAT.

You have a good chance at Purdue and Penn State. The rest of the publics are really tough to get in for Engg. or CS, especially for OOS applicants.

Thanks for chancing me earlier
Anyways I think you have a solid chance for all of the listed schools
I’m not an expert for international students so I’m not sure but I believe that most are high matches except NYU and Carnegie (reaches). Make sure you write great essays and apply to a safety.

Your upwards trend is encouraging, and good luck!
