MAJOR APPLYING TO: Computer Engineering

Schools:

MIT (Interviewed)

Cornell

UPenn

Northwestern

Johns Hopkins

Carnegie Mellon

Boston University

Northeastern

UMASS Amherst

Columbia

11. Harvard

Thank you for your time!

Your CR is quite low but other than that, your stats are quite good. The hook of being a single parent is good too, especially considering your high GPA. Is this your own child or are you the sole provider for a younger sibling?

Yeah, I absolutely cannot raise my critical reading score for some reason. =/ I edited my topic to make it more clear. I’m not a single parent, but I’ve been raised by a single parent (my mother). Thank you for the response!

Your only drag is your SAT. But I think that your college experience should make up partly for that.

MIT (Interviewed) mid reach

Cornell low reach

UPenn mid reach

Northwestern match

Johns Hopkins mid reach

Carnegie Mellon low reach

Boston University - high match

Northeastern -high match

UMASS Amherst - match

Columbia mid reach

Harvard -high reach

Yeah, you got a lot of reaches. You should probably look at some schools like RIT or GaTech.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816107-my-final-chances-thread-umd-gatech-johns-hopkins-mit-nd-vandy-hp.html

Yeah I would have, but those technical institutes with the exception of MIT, is just not for me. I dislike the environment. I would rather go to BU than RIT, RPI, WIT or GaTech. Thank you for your response though; it’s helpful.

Your GPA is great, schedule is pretty strong, and superscored SAT’s look pretty solid. In addition, your hooks are going to score big points, and EC’s are knockout. Here are my chances:

MIT (Interviewed): Reasonable-BIG Reach

Cornell: Low-Reasonable Reach

UPenn: Reasonable Reach

Northwestern: Match-Reach

Johns Hopkins: Low Reach

Carnegie Mellon: Match-Reach

Boston University: In

Northeastern: In

UMASS Amherst: In

Columbia: BIG REACH

Harvard: HUGE HUGE HUGE Reach

I like your list save for Columbia, Harvard, and MIT… you have great stats, but they don’t match up with Ivy material (UPenn and Cornell are fine). Keep MIT, but I’d suggest getting rid of Columbia and Harvard, they’re too big of reaches (4.5 GPA’s and 1600 SAT Composite valedictorians are rejected)

Look into:

 • Vanderbilt
 • Georgetown
 • Boston College
 • Colgate
 • Rice
 • Texas-Austin

Hope this helps!! Plz Chance me!!

MIT- high reach

Cornell-medium reach

UPenn-reach

Northwestern-low-mid reach

Johns Hopkins-low reach

Carnegie Mellon-high match/low reach

Boston University-in

Northeastern-in

UMASS Amherst-in

Columbia-mid reach

Harvard-high reach
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816397-chance-me-i-really-hope-you-dont-know-me.html

Yeah, I am applying to Columbia because it is free through being a Questbridge finalist. I love the school, but I know the chances are very slim. I’m applying to Harvard because my grandmother used to work there and I love the atmosphere there. She wants me to apply and see if I am able to get into the school she worked for for about 10 years. :]

Chancing you all back right now!

bump 10 chars

bump 10 chars

Congrats that you got in :)

MIT (Interviewed) - Mid Reach

Cornell - Low Reach/Mid Reach

UPenn - Mid/High Reach

Northwestern - Low Reach

Johns Hopkins - Low Reach

Carnegie Mellon - High Match/Low Reach

Boston University - High Match

Northeastern - Low Match

UMASS Amherst - Unfamiliar with it

Columbia - Mid Reach/High Reach

Harvard - Mid Reach/High Reach

You do have a lot of reaches, but it would take a string of unluckiness to not get into at least one or two. Chance Back if you can?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/821071-chance-me-general-admission-merit-aid-honors-colleges-southern-schools.html

MIT (Interviewed) - sats too low

Cornell - low reach

UPenn - reach

Northwestern - good chance

Johns Hopkins - good chance

Carnegie Mellon - good chance

Boston University - match

Northeastern - match

UMASS Amherst - idk

Columbia - sats too low, probably

Harvard - sats too low

chance me back : )

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/820193-chance-columbia-u-cc-ed-class-14-a.html

I’d say match for all except MIT and the ivies.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/817037-new-sat-score-chances-anyone-will-chance-back.html

Result: Attending MIT

Just bumping up this thread to show you all that SAT scores matter, but they can’t break you. Focus on describing yourself extremely well and if they think you fit the school and that you will succeed, you will get in.
