Final Decision: SLU vs UIUC????

Everyone on this forum has been extremely helpful and I just have one major last question to ask. I have been accepted for computer science at both universities and don't know what to do. Here's the situation:

Saint Louis University and take 5k of loans a yr

UIUC and take around 20k of loans a yr (paying out of state sticker price)

This decision would normally be easy if UIUC wasn't ranked so high (#5 in CS). Also I fear a lack of opportunities at SLU. So what do you guys think? Is the debt worth the chance to chase all the wonderful cs opportunities at UIUC and receive a world class cs education?

That’s a tough choice. I would try to revisit both schools and get a feel for how that classes are. Initially at U of I you would be taking gen ed classes, but their computer science has always been amazing. It’s also a much larger school with a lot going on. SLU you might have smaller classes and more individual attention. What is the job placement for that major when you are graduated? My daughter was torn between those two schools as well and ultimately went to U of I. There is no hand holding there but she has learned to work the system and has had a positive experience. SLU is smaller and more of a community feel, but after 4 years, would it seem too small? I loved both schools, so look specifically into your major, classes you will take, internships, job placement. You will probably be happy with either choice!

thanks Macmo1! I think I’ll go to U of I because of the top computer science program. SLU seems relatively unknown and there seems to be a lack of computer science opportunities such as clubs and events.

^right choice.
