Final Exam - cumulative or not?

Hi all, I have not posted here since school started.

I just finished my first semester, and I am excited that it is over. I have one question. I had to take a developmental writing class this semester. In the beginning I was a little weak, however before midterms I began to do extremely well, and I received a P (passing). I had to re-writ 2 papers in the beginning but that was it. It was to the point where my instructor told the class that she was tired of myself and another young lady being the only ones to answer questions. I never missed a homework assignment or paper. I only missed 2 classes. My question is this, can I still fail the course if I did not do so well on my final exam? Are developmental courses passing results based on final exam or are they cumulative? The final exam was to write an essay. I wrote the paper in the proper format, but I did not include my personal experience ( or someone that I know experience). This is a pass/fail class. I will not receive a grade, only pass or fail.

You should really ask your professor about this, but I'll try to give you some answers.

It depends on how the grades are distributed. If midterms and finals are 50/50. And you got say 80 on the midterms, then theortically you can still pass with a 40% on the final. Though, given that it's only pass/final then... it's hard to say. I think if say you get very close to 50 on the final then it should be ok. But, what if you get 20%? Well that might be different.
