Final exams until Dec 22?

My biggest concern about the coming semester is, we will have final exams until December 22. I mean, i'm no saying this arrangement is necessarily bad, but still, I feel reluctant to wait until Dec 23 to fly home.
Also, think about those international kids who need to fly over 16 hours to the other side of the world. Although Lambert is called "international airport", it probably only has flights to Canada. 7 AM on Dec 23 (central time) is like 9 or 10 PM on Dec 23 in Asia, so they will not arrive at home until Noon on Dec 24. Even if you are not flying abroad, the ticket price will still be extraordinarily expensive. What is the point of this change?

When I signed up for the courses, I kept telling myself, "don't look at the exam time, pick the right ones." But I just can't push myself to ignore time of finals. I may eventually try to finish my exmas by Dec 17, so that I can go home asap.

What do you guys think of it? Or do you have any idea why this change was made?

I think you’re over emphasizing it. I know 2-5 years ago we always used to finish by like the 14th, but I really don’t see it as a big deal. Lambert is a proper international airport, it doesn’t just fly to Canada. Schedules are made well in advance…you can see what day each semester starts for the next 4-5 years if you look at the wustl website. If you feel you must take your finals early, then by all means do it. Although as a freshmen who hasn’t registered yet, you probably won’t be able to determine your classes by when the finals are.

I think it would be very silly to choose your classes based on the date of the finals.
