Hey guys,

So I'm a GMS finalist! I'm so happy! But I don't want to be too happy since this it isn't over. I was wondering what comes next? How do they decide the scholars? How many finalists do they select?

I know it says mid-April they select the scholars. Is it that basically every finalist gets the scholarship if they meet the criteria for Pell Grant and GPA and stuff?

Congrats to all the other finalists! :)

they decide scholars based on what your application looks like, they just do a more thorough review. they select about 2k-6k apparently for finalists, and then it comes down to the 1,000!

and no most finalists do not get the scholarship unfortunately :(

In the final round. I was told that they not only look at your income but they observe the transcript. Then they do a type of formula to see how much your family contribute. Part of the reason why a lot of finalist do not win is because they are not Pell Grant Eligible. So if you are then fantastic. Next, they look at how much is the total cost of attendance is going to be. So if you are Pell Grant eligible this can help you a lot in the final round.
Good Luck!!!

UNCF finalist!

Congrats to all who made it this far. May God help all of us.
