<p>does anyone know how competitive it is? or how they choose who gets the scholarships?</p>
<p>the biggest concern is being eligible for the Pell Grant. That requirement usually disqualifies most people. It's rather easy to get because there's 1000 of them given out each year. Hopefully, we'll all get it!</p>
<p>and there are two rounds to it.</p>
<p>in early april, they will announce the finalist for the scholarship. Then you have to send in your transcripts to verify your grades.</p>
<p>in early may, they will annouce the official GATES scholar for 2005.</p>
<p>almost always, everyone who is a finalist becomes a scholar.</p>
<p>I was under the impression that it was difficult to get - meeting all unmet need could mean a large number. But if I'm wrong, i'll be very very glad.</p>
<p>how do they check to see if you are eligible for a Pell Grant? Do they contact FAFSA directly, or was I suppose to send something?</p>
