So this thread is just for anyone from finalist weekend who wanted to get in contact with other finalists or anyone with questions about it or anyone who just wants to share how absolutely amazing richmond is!!! By the way, is there anyone on here that went? Oldham, Science, Boatwright, or any other scholar?

sorry i meant the finalist week, lol my mistake

icsmatt -
Although my son didn't make finalist, I'd still be interested in hearing about your experiences at the weekend. What were the interviews like? Did you attend classes? Did they put on a lot of presentations? I'm just curious.

Good luck - I hope you get selected as a Richmond Scholar!

well first of all it looks like an ivy of the south, except without the ivy, and EVERYTHING is brick lol. the thing that i loved and was really surprised by was that i pried and pried but i could not get a single negative comment about anything at the university. i asked everyone i met 2 questions, fav class so far, and is there anything you dont like about the school? people raved about the classes and were dumbfounded to find something wrong with r u. The other thing that i noticed was that everyone was smiling, as is i did not see any sad people, i actually commented on that to another finalist with a nice. "I see happy people, EVERYWHERE!!" so yeah that was interesting

i attended 3 classes, none of which were with my host. I went to the buisness school for a class, went to a war/religion/ethics class, and went to a philosophy class. The buisness was senior level and i found the topic to be applied caculus in a buisness world, the w/r/e class war interesting and i had a nice discussion with the proffesor, and the philosophy class, well, i was really into that and i think i gave more input than any of the other students, not because they were not studious, but because the proffessor and i started relating godel's thoery of incompleteness to proving annimal consciousness ..... so yeah i really enjoyed it

the interview consisted of a long table, myself, and nine members of the selection commitee. although some people found it intimidating, nine vs one, i thought it was pretty laid back and they interviewers just wanted to know about what they applicants were really like. That said, they tried to put you on the spot and catch you on little things not to poke holes in your resume or call you a liar; they wanted to see how you react in certain situations. That was my opinion anyway.

they gave many presentations and dinners which were really nice, and the food was stellar. (i think they were bribing us through our stomachs)
all in all i loved it and hope that i can attend in the fall

any other questions about anything feel free to ask

My daughter just returned from U of Rich as an Artist Scholar Finalist. icsmatt is correct...the campus is gorgeous but she did say that she thought the food at W&L was better.
