I just more or less tanked my mid-terms even though I studied A LOT. Do colleges look at Midterms or finals when accepting or do the not care. Also how much do Finals and Midterms fall in terms GPA, (How important are they/ why do we have them grade wise ). If you see this please leave a reply anything helps. Thanks in advance!
How much a final or mid-term counts depends on how your school weights them, a question an anonymous forum cannot answer.
However, if these tests significantly drop your grades/GPA, that could negatively impact your admission chances.
You should talk to your guidance counselor about what appears on the transcript sent to colleges. And how it is weighted depends on your teacher/your school policy - nobody here can answer that.
Some school shows midterm and final exam grades on a student’s transcript. Some others don’t.
Typically midterm and final exam combined weighs 10%~20% of overall grade, but it varies by school and sometimes by teacher.
@ihateschool You should first read the syllabi that you received at the beginning of the course in each class to see what percentage of the course grade each test is worth. Then if you’re still confused, talk to each teacher. (While you’re at it, ask them if they can help you with suggestions for better strategies for studying for the exams, as studying “A LOT” is NOT the same as studying “smartly” or “efficiently.” Are you completing classwork and homework and asking for help as you go along in these classes? All those things prepare you for exams, not just cramming before the test.)
As to how your school reports grades on your transcripts (eg. midterms, quarters, semesters, full-year, etc), make an appointment to talk with your guidance counselor.
Most important though is to get ahold of your schoolwork and studying habits ASAP. Good luck.
