Finance graduate with exactly a 3.0 GPA. What are my options?

I graduated with exactly a 3.0 GPA. I know there wouldn’t be JP Morgan or Goldman Sachs for me, so does that mean my finance degree is completely useless and I can’t find a decent, well paying position? Because I know many finance majors usually have pretty high GPA and their aims are always those big firms or intermediaries.

Anyone ? Please ?

It ultimately depends what college you went to; the difference in opportunity of a 3.0 at a great school and a 3.0 at a bad school is huge. Also, do you have any relate-able work experience or internships? Also what do you consider a “decent, well-paying job”, there’s so many variables to this question!

Ultimately, the answer is “maybe”. Your opportunities are going to be rather small (compared to finance majors with higher gpa’s) in the SHORT-RUN. The main thing is to find some kind of relate-able work experience that way you can show employers you can perform and work your way up this way. Also some things to consider is to later on obtain a graduate degree possibly or some kind of certification (CPA, CFA, CFP, or etc), these certifications somewhat blur the line of GPA and school name prestige because it proves you are able to perform in that area.

Oh, sorry. By “well-paying job,” I meant jobs that are not at big-firms/intermediaries, like the rest of the finance majors always aim for. I mean, there are other industries that need finance/business people besides JP Morgan, or working on Wall Street, right? So outside of those, will I be able to earn enough income to, say buy a house and start a family. I did have internship at a city water department but the position is more on data entry than finance related.

Did you go to a target school?

No, it is not a target school.

Most likely but like I asked in a previous reply, what do you consider well-paying? And how nice of a house would you settle for? There’s plenty of people with houses and families who don’t have well-paying jobs (to my standards of well-paying).

@showmelight, go to the big corporate engineering firms. They have all kinds of finance reps for the business side of the contracts. You’ll make some decent money.

check local opportunities. I have a friend who has <3.0 and W’s he found a finance job at a very large regional utilities company doing finance stuff. he said he didnt list his gpa on his resume.

Oh, are you international? If so, it will be almost impossible because you will need a sponsor.
