Hello, I don't know much about Business majors, but I have been trying to do more research on the topic. Any advice would be helpful, and I'm sorry if I sound uninformed.

I am interested in studying Business, and eventually work and reside overseas (such as China, HK, Singapore). I'm a bit confused about what would be the best path of study for me to reach this dream.

For undergrad, I've narrowed it down to Finance, Business (general?), and Accounting. Which would be the best choice though/what are the big differences? And then masters in Business Administration? I see some schools offer a concentration in International Business - what's the difference between MBA with concentration in International Business and just a major in International Business? Or would it be better get my bachelors in International Business? Also, if I'm interested in working internationally, would it be good to do a year as an exchange student overseas? Is this usually done during undergraduate?

Sorry, I'm just really confused about all the different degrees and stuff.

Any advice would be great, thanks in advance!

Hi, I’ve done a bit more research since my last post and I think Accounting would be the best choice. However, would having a BS in Accounting be a good choice for if I wanted to get an MBA afterwards? Also I’m a bit confused about CPA and MBA, could someone explain these in simple terms?

Also - if I wanted to spend some time studying abroad, would it be good to do it around soph/jr year? Or would it be better to get a summer internship abroad rather than go through an exchange program? Is it beneficial, for someone who wants to go into international business, to study abroad?

Thanks guys!

Here are a couple of links to answer your MBA vs. CPA question.

What is a CPA?

What is an MBA?

In regards to MBA, you can get an MBA with any major. A psych major can get an MBA. Many times a A CPA requires 150 credits (and you can see your particular state for academic requirements) so an MBA could be one way of getting that but many schools offer an MS in Accounting to cover that extra year of coursework. I have both an MBA (recieved first) and an MS and since I do taxes, the MS was more beneficial. Also, I didn’t go to an elite MBA and with a business degree, I really found it pretty redundant since I had an undergrad business degree. If you go to a prestigious school such as Wharton, plan on working a couple years and having success before going back for the MBA.

As for studying abroad, it is definitely beneficial if you want to go into IB. I think your best bet is your sophomore year or a summer program between your junior and senior years. This will give you more flexibility in completing your upper division classes in your junior and senior year.
