Ok, so I am likely deciding between these two for my bachelors degree. I definitely want to get a masters later (Looking in the emergency services/National Security sector). Which is seen as a better skill at a managerial level or for federal workers (likely where I am going to aim my job search).
Also, which of these concentration if Finance is better? Corporate Finance/Investment, Banking, Real Estate
Be aware you’re limiting your earnings potential by working for the government. The government does not have a finance issue- they just tax everyone for revenue and borrow against future tax receipts to overspend. So bean counting is more useful for government jobs. A masters in public administration (MPA) makes the most sense if you’re set on government work. An MBA is more flexible and lucrative.
Btw, Finance is the concentration and does not break down further into those subsets.
@Zhanger The concentrations listed above, I have to choose one so even if you don’t think they are… Can you pick one lol
Thanks for the advice about MPA, that is a consideration. MBA a bit less so
If you need advice with which finance concentration is better. Let me give you a tip. I would not consider Real Estate because that goes up and down all the time. You don’t really know how well real estate will be. I would go for Corporate finance/investment. You can make a great career out of it without worrying about a MPA or MBA for a while. You can gather good money in that field to later then go back to school. Banking is good too since you can land yourself in a corporate bank. A possible career could be either a financial analyst or financial planner. A MBA is not worth it unless you get it from a well-known school or your employer is requiring it for a pay raise or to determine if you should stay in that firm or not. Focus on getting good grades and a good internship. Good luck! Hope this helps. Corporate Finance/investment gives you more opportunities.
