Hello...

And sorry, for not having more post(s) before this one, will try my best to help in the future.

Really have been perplexed by this.

How common is it for a school to require you to file out for financial aid(with them, not FAFSA), and send verification forms, etc, BEFORE Admission. Application was sent, regular admission, not early, so of course, no "word" has came.

Are the financial aid/admission departments completely separate?

It’s not only common, it’s almost uniformly done in this way. When they send an acceptance offer they also want to provide you with a financial aid award if you qualify for one. Otherwise, how could you know if you would be able to afford to attend? How would you be able to choose that school without knowing the costs?

Thanks… :)

Tuition is in-state so should be low…didn’t know you had to apply for financial aid with the school as well…

???

Others can correct me if I’m wrong, but you’re really only applying to the school (or several schools) for financial aid. You can’t just submit FAFSA and expect aid without applying to a school for FA. Schools determine aid using the info from FAFSA.

Perhaps you’re thinking that when you submit FAFSA that you’re sending it to the gov’t for them to dispense aid. No, it doesn’t work like that.

Amped up, when you submit your FAFSA you include code numbers for each school you want to receive that information. As far as FAFSA goes, that is applying to the school for aid.

If you are going to an in-state public you may have done all that you need to do just by filing the FAFSA. It is always important to check the financial aid pages on the colleges’ website though to see if anything else is required of you. It varies by school.
