Dear Financial Aid Committee,
My Name is ___ and I am writing this in hopes that the decision to suspend my financial aid would be reconsidered. My first year of college was very difficult as I wasn’t prepared for some of the classes that I chose to take which resulted in my poor performance. I have since reevaluated my plans in order to improve my performance.

In the Fall of 2012 I chose to take courses that I have since realized were too difficult for myself. Having had no prior college-life and courses experience, I didn’t know what to expect and learned that my studying techniques were lacking which resulted in my poor grades. I also failed to seek assistance, attend review sessions, and speak to my professor about my performance which led to my failure of the class.

Due to these circumstances I have been rendered ineligible to receive financial aid. Without financial aid, I will be unable to continue my education because I cannot afford the expenses such as the supplies I need, fees, books, and transportation. Receiving financial aid will make my studies easier to manage both for myself and my parents. My academics are my first priority and I now realize I need to devote all of my time to them in order to be successful in the future.

In order to ensure my success in school, the following points will be the key points to my success.
1. I will balance the courses I choose better.
2. I will manage my time wisely on academics.
3. I will seek assistance when I’m having difficulties.
4. I will speak with my professor on a weekly basis to ensure my success in my courses.
5. Pass my courses with a grade of a C or better.

Thank your for time in reading this letter. I now better understand the expectations I need to live up to in order to do well in my academics and will guarantee better results when I return to school. I look forward to hear about the decision that will be made.

Sincerely,

I also want to point out that I took time off this past semester and got a job to help support my parents with the bills and won't be able to attend this Spring due to lack of money, should I include this in the letter? I also heard that appeals aren't approved until after the student has shown improvement in a semester that the student has paid on their own, is this true?

Some feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
