anyone know how to do this??

did you get screwed over by finaid? this is like the 3rd thread i see of someone saying their finaid sux, so mine will prolly sux too!

lol yeah...but there is a problem because my father is now retired, but it didn't show up on the tax returns, and my family's income has decreased by 70%

yeh I'd like to know about this too...I've got a deadbeat father so things are a bych! While I can still attend with my package with him helping out or not, I'd much rather only have a few K per yr in loans n shiz than what I have now..

umm talk to financial aid advisors in Day Hall. They will help you with special circumstances. But if you just think you deserve more without solid proof, then you are out of luck

no i have proof...but it does not show up on the tax returns because he retired in october...

Well it seems that you first have to address the tax return problem before Cornell can do anything.

umm documentation from his old company maybe helpful? just a thought

there is evidence on the tax returns that he has retired. The tax returns are accurate for last year, and I know that schools use them to estimate what your family should pay for the curent year, but they are not accurate whatsoever. I am gathering information for the appeal, will estimate my parent's income for this year, and send the financial aid office anything thay need.

did you get your award yet? Cause if you did---then you maybe out of luck. Doesnt matter...email them! They are really nice, they will talk to you. I mean as alwaysa, its much easier to pay money than get it, but these financial aid people are really really easy to talk to and understanding

yeah I got my award...but I have heard that they look at your fafsa EFC and then go from there without taking much account into anything else. The award says that if you feel as if they have overlooked something, or if you situation has changed, that you can appeal. Honestly, there is no way that my family can afford Cornell with the award they have given me...the EFC is more than my family will make this year!! lol

Umm they do that if you didnt include anything else. I got more money than my EFC becuase I sent them a separate letter. You have to TELL them that, otherwise they'll just lookat ur EFC considering the fact they look through thousands of applications a year

I did indicate it on the css profile, but i dobut they read it. i'm collecting all the data now, and will hopefully e-mail it to them tomorrow.

hey, how long does it take for finaid to give u the offer once ur app is complete? and also, how long did it take u to get your offer once your decision arrives?

Unfortunately, the colleges base their information on the past. Not what will/could/should happen in the future. I'm wondering how tax returns show that your father has retired. Do you mean the income he earned is much less than the previous years? Does your family have a lot of assets?

It appears that most packages from Cornell have around 10-12 thousand in loans for the first year. Some people may think that is acceptable.

The good part may be that next year's taxes will show much less income earned if your father does not work at all in 2007.

mojojojo arent you transfer? I thought they sent out the financial aid award with the acceptance. Unless you applied late, then you'll just find out with the rest of freshman. If you didnt get it with ur decision, then i have NO clue, u really shouldve gotten it...call them!!!!!!

Yeah, I think htye told me they only look a few things on CSS....
how mcuh ur house is worth and **** like that...stuff not on fafsa. Are you a freshman applicant? I thought they left a blank for you to explain special circumstances on the COrnell app....

yeah, im a transfer, but i still havent received my finaid!! I got in like last week, and my finaid app is complete according to the lady i spoke with 2 days ago

umm did u get ur netid yet? cause if u did u can check on uportal.cornell.edu

arent netids for people who registered to the campus? i havent said yes or no

Hmm...that could be a problem, i thought u decided to come here already and wanted to see how much you got. Well... your best best is calling the office and asking them. or sending out an email, they get to those pretty quickly
