Financial aid at PSU.

I was offered some financial aid for this summer session. How does PSU give us the money? Do they send a check to us in the mail or something?

I would think it would be credited to your account on elion - that is where the loans show up. Was it in the form of a loan that you had to complete loan counseling before it would be disbursed? Or a grant?
Penn State does very little via regular mail anymore so I doubt they would send a check.

Your fall tuition bill is up. If you look at that you should see the activity from the summer too. It should show up in the bursar's account.

PSU gave me aid in the form of a grant for the summer. They also gave me grants and loans for the Fall. I already completed the loan counseling; is there anything else I need to do for the loans?

If you get into your PSU account you can actually click on each aid and it will tell you if you are missing anything. Is it there yet?

This is what it says for my Summer Aid:

Federal Pell Grant

Information seen below is current as of July 17, 2007.
Summer:
This award is ready to disburse. Awards disburse on or after the first day of the semester after you have completed your registration.

It says the aid is ready to disburse...meaning that its ready to be given to me? It said that like a month ago. I just want to know how I receive the money...

well if it was for summer and your bill was:
total minus the Pell Grant = Y, and you paid Y, then you got your aid.

Actually no. That's what I THOUGHT would happen too but didn't.

My payment deadline for summer was June 23. E-Lion said my aid would be disbursed "on or after the first day of my latest class"$ (in this case, would be July 3). So I decided to pay the "Y" from your equation. When PSU received my check, my e-lion reflected that (however, it still says I owe the "pell grant" amount and that my registration was incomplete). So then I sent another check to to pay for the rest (which I was suppose to get aid to cover but never did). So now I paid for the summer session in full. Can I still get that summer aid back and have it forwarded to my fall bill?

If you already paid and you are due a refund they will ask you if you want a rapid refund. You have to fill out the rapid refund site and they will automatically put the money i the account you chose. If you are due a refund and you do not chose rapid refund they will mail you a check.

Have you accessed your actual bill yet? Your summer and fall tuition should be in a running total on the page that has your bill. Copy before you finish so you can have a hard copy. Is this making any sense?

sorry, lil. cross posted. Have you accessed your fall bill yet because it is there. Often times the aid takes a bit to show up. If you have any questions I'd call them. They are always pretty nice.

My fall bill is correct right now. They subtracted over $8000 for the category "Less student aid (Anticipated student financial aid detail above)".

For my summer bill, it was correct for one week. They subtracted $1000 for the category "Less student aid (Anticipated student financial aid detail above)" which is the financial aid." A week later, when I'm ready to send a check to pay for the "Y" in your equation, the $1000 that they subtracted went down to ZERO, and the net payable went up by $1000. So I paid what was on the bill.

Did they take my summer financial aid away or something? In my student aid summary on e-lion, my federal pell grant of $1000 is still there.

I'm going to email them, because I have to go to class now. They usually email back pretty quickly.

It is a good idea to contact them. My understanding of the Pell Grant is that there is an annual maximum you can get, and they were going to put some of your total toward the summer but since you paid it they moved it to the fall/spring. But that is a guess, you are good to call/email.

I would also consider calling Student Aid at 814-865-6301. I am sure someone will help you out.
