Financial Aid Awards

Will financial aid awards be mailed to us, or will they be posted online? Also, if they are being mailed, does anyone know when they will be mailed or if they have been mailed? Thanks for any help!

They will be mailed AND posted online. They usually appear online a few days before they arrive in the mail, and the end of the first week of April has been the approximate time they are presented.

How do you check online? Through USConnect?

Bump-
I would also like to know how to check online about the financial aid :)

I called yesterday to ask, but got enough information from the recording that I never talked to anyone. The recording said that as your award is available, the student would receive an email. You then log on to USConnect and click on the Financial Aid tab. My guess is a new box will be available which shows your award. They will also be mailed. Yesterday I had the window open and the Financial Aid documents box disappeared. I got all excited thinking they were loading my son’s award, but when I logged out and back in, it was back to normal. Keeping my fingers crossed that today is the day for some of us!

A note: Last year some of the packages appeared before they were complete, especially those with scholarships. That led to a flurry of threads with panic-inducing titles claiming that USC financial aid was inadequate (though the previously pleasant posters used other words… :frowning: ). When their complete packages posted a few days later, they were a bit embarassed about their strong words.

SO, if you look at your financial aid and see “only” a scholarship when you felt you were eligible for much more, please take a deep breath and check to see if there is at least an unsubsidized Stafford loan included. EVERYONE who filed a FAFSA will have a Stafford in their package, so if it isn’t there WAIT before you complain!!! That will make the finacial-aid-answer-lady’s life much easier :)

^ bump, ppl should tell us when they start receiving fin aid info, so i can know when to expect one :D

What do we look for to know awards are “posted online?” Will there be an additional box on the financial aid page of USConnect? Or is there somewhere else we should be looking?

I would wait for the email saying it is ready and then follow the link. If you are checking and checking online, that is when you are likely to see the bits and pieces being posted and incomplete packages. I know you will all check anyway  , just don’t start posting those panic threads until ALL the information is there or I will get surly.

I just got a box on my USC connect that shows Financial Aid Award but when I click it, it says that my award isn’t available yet. So it should be soon because the box is up!

alamemom,

Could you post that information regarding the possibility that financial aid packages as first posted may not be complete in block letters? I can see parents posting who do not read all through the threads. As you remarked last year there were unhappy people who did not realize the package was incomplete.

I will keep bumping it up for you.

As much as I like to see people eat crow because of their panicked and not thought out posts decrying USC for um… being a big meanie and not giving them any money (actual comments replaced - I’m sure we know what they are), I very much agree with Georgia Girl.

Actually, I would suggest starting a new thread, with the title being something like “DON’T PANIC! Financial aid awards are not complete yet!”

Thank you for your insightful posts alamemom and Georgia Girl. I recently got the Trustee Scholarship and it does appear under my Financial Aid Awards button my USConnect. This may sound like a dumb question; however, under that says that I can get a Stafford Loan and stuff but does not indicate any other institutional aid. Does that mean that they are complete with my financial aid package?

Sorry if I am asking a very redundant and dumb question, but I was just wondering. The heat in LA (it is like 95 degrees right now) is making me dizzy.

I just clicked on the Financial Aid Awards tab on USConnect and a huge error message came up, so we probably have to wait a little more.

I can access my award statement and other financial aid information. But it starts erroring every few minutes.

I can’t see any new boxes under financial aid.

Then again, I can’t see my enrollment commitment or events boxes either. I called them about this problem yesterday and they fixed it but it started up again. Oh well. They must be adding things to my account.

lemoncookie, so do you get the continue button and can click on it? My son has no continue button on the welcome letter.

Speechless,

Please wait for the e-mail indicating your package is complete. Also, SC will send out a written form which should have everything listed.

Did you submit all forms, tax forms and data in by the deadline? If anything was later your complete package will have a delay.

Read some of the comments from last year. The Trustee alone is worth over $160,000 dollars.

NC Mom - Yes I could click on the Continue button. My screen was too large so I had to scroll over to see it. It should be in the bottom right corner.

Georgia Girl,

Yeah, I am waiting for the email. I am already a Trojan (I just submitted by intent to register just right now!!!). I just have one question. Do the merit scholarships affect the financial aid given by USC? Such that just because I got the scholarship, I am ineligible for any other financial aid/university grants?
