Financial Aid Awards

Thank you lemoncookie! I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. His award is there too!

Just looked online at Financial Aid award and praying it is incomplete because it only offers Stafford Loans for student for a small amount and expects parents to pay almost the full tab. This can’t be right. We are expecting a substantial EFC, but not the full amount! Looking at earlier posts, it sounds like more of the package is yet to come. Please tell me not to panic and hang in there for a few more days. Surely, more aid is forthcoming?

My entire award has been posted. very happy with the amount :)

SC will send you an e-mail when your package is complete. Also, you will receive the information in written form by mail.

SC uses the CSS Profile and the FAFSA. Please skim through alamemom’s thread. Your question may be answered there.

Is anyone else unable to see the boxes that admitted students usually are able to see (commitment, events, financial aid award)? This is kind of freaking me out.

Speechless,
It is my understanding a student may receive financial aid in addition to scholarships. Please skim through alamemom’s long thread. Your questions may have already been asked in the thread.

When people filled out the commitment/deposit form did the whole box disappear from your USConnect next time you signed on?

Minnymom…we are in the same boat. Just got a small stafford loan. We have to pay the full tab.

ugh my usconnect is uber lag…i can’t even log in

Yes, I too only got a very minor stafford loan. But, I won’t panic until I get the email.

I sure hope more is on the way though

only minor stafford loans… super disappointed. hoping that more is coming because otherwise attending usc this fall will be unrealistic :(

caliemi16, i totally agree… my EFC is around $44k and my parents only make like $99k before taxes too (my UC EFC was 14k!!)… if they dont offer anymore, the cost of attending USC will be more than half my parents’ total income :(. and they still have housing payments and my siblings’ private school tuition! im really disappointed and panicking right now. so much for USC as my top choice…

dimoret I’m in an entirely similar situation- EFC 52,000, and my dad is retired and makes less than 80,000 a year… It sucks because USC is totally my dream school and I would hate to get so close to going there and then not be able to attend!

It seems like my fin aid is complete and its pretty descent…i am just wondering is it possible they will reduce the money they are giving :open_mouth: i hope not??? Does anyone know?

darn it! this just shows how much the middle-class suffers when it comes to financial aid. your situation just shocks me. how in the world does USC expect you to pay 52k if your income is less than 80k?? have they forgotten that we still have housing payments and other things to pay off? well, other posters are saying that the financial packages are not final yet, and we should not panic until USC sends out an official email… hopefully, we both get a good package :(. (i already paid for non-refundable plane tickets to Los Angeles on Admitted Day, and if USC gives me this lousy package, i wouldve wasted an additional $300 on tickets…)

I can’t help but hope that the financial aid packages aren’t complete, and if they are, and that is truly what they’re offering, my dad plans to appeal. dimoret- where else have you been accepted?
superdoo1- they may reduce your aid if you notify them that you received any outside scholarships (local ones, etc) otherwise, I think that what you’re offered shouldn’t decrease

Please wait for the email saying your package is ready. It would be very unusual for the expected contribution to go from $14,000-ish to $52,000 unless you have some SIGNIFICANT assets that were protected on the FAFSA - nearly one million dollars worth - do you have such an asset?

Dimoret, if you have not received an email saying your package is ready, please do not start your rant yet. Thank you for your patience.

does anyone else have the “View Financial Aid Document(s) Status” under “next steps” still pending?

yeah, im planning to appeal too, if theyre only going to give me $44k. its ridiculous. uhmm i was also accepted to UCSD, UOP (5year prepharm program), Tufts, Boston College, UC Davis, and wait-listed at Vanderbilt and Bowdoin College. Every school so far (excluding tufts and BC, as they havent notified students yet) have offered me a pretty decent package that my parents can afford. i applied for an honors program at USC, and received an email of interest from the director, but if i cant even afford the tuition, it will be such a waste…

USC gave me $9,708 in Cal Grant A, $5,550 in Pell Grant, $31,768 in University Grant, and $500 in the SEOG grant (however, I have heard that the federal gov may be removing this grant and so I’m not sure about if I will keep it) and a Roski scholarship of $3,000. They also gave me $2500 in work-study, and $5,550 in student loans. So I suppose, if you don’t include the work-study and loans they gave me $50,526. I’m not quite sure what the tuition is but it looks like for tuition I’m covered. I’m very grateful for this however I have two major concerns. The first is that they said my EFC is $2,500…I don’t understand how they get this number because both of my parents are unemployed, my brother is in college, and we have no assets. I’m just curious as to how EFC is calculated. Also, in June my father starts working a new job where he will earn $70,000. We still have no assets and my brother will be a Junior in college and on full financial aid too. I’m worried I will lose all my aid because there is no way that we can afford $50,000 in tuition.
