itsMoo77: They gave me a University Grant of about 23k, work-study of 2.5k, and Stafford loans totalling 5.5k. The FAFSA we completed months ago indicated that our EFC was about 23k, I think.

I didn’t even think about applying to USC until after the scholarship deadline of December 1, so I definitely didn’t get any scholarships.

USC just told me that they needed all these documents for aid about 2 days ago, and as a result, my dad just send them in yesterday. Will my award arrive later?

Yes, your aid will be later. They try to get them out within about two weeks of receiving all requested documents, but if they are very busy it could take longer. What additional documents did they request?

Thanks, Victoriaheidi! I wish my D would be on CC, but, unfortunately, feels her Guidance Counselor at school knows best…LOL!! I keep telling her there’s so much valuable information to be learned from this site, but she has a mind of her own–just thankful that she’s convinced herself that being a Trojan is the right thing to do; she didn’t want her folks to decide anything for her!!! I bet you can relate! I’m hoping she’ll come around and recognize the benefits of CC and all the cool folks on the site! I even told her this may be an avenue upon which she could find a potential roommate at Birnkrant. I’ll be sure to tell her about the Facebook group. Thanks again to all!! Have a super great weekend!!!

They needed the Termination or Work Reduction Documentation - Parent, Parent’s Pay Stub, Parent’s Unemployment Benefits, and Income and Expense Declaration Form, Parent. I sent my Fafsa and CSS profile in early Feb, and they had it under the wrong social security number or something for the whole time. They only let us know that they “didn’t have” my Fafsa and profile about two days after I was admitted. I’m surprised that they’re encountering so many problems with my aid, and they better not give me less of a package because of it.

fenderjg528, please remember that USC grants are USC’s own money, donated by alumni and supporters. I have seen USC provide full aid to applicants who missed every deadline - sometimes by months, so I don’t think you will have any negative effect. They are clearly working through the weekend (as evidenced by the changes people are posting about) to get these packages out, and will do all they can to ensure you get your package before you have to decide where you will attend.

I feel you are being a tiny bit unreasonable with your negative response to a request for information - they are giving away their own money and have every right to ask for any information they feel they need. If you prefer to only receive Federal aid, the additional information is not required. There is also a hint of an attitude of entitlement when you are asking for a gift of what might be thousands of dollars and include the phrase “they better not give me less aid…”

The social security issue only arose for applicants who chose not to include their social security number on their application, or who entered it incorrectly. Those who included the ssn on their application encountered no difficulties. Many discovered the problem about a month ago when they checked USConnect to see if any further documents were needed - did everything show up properly on your USConnect when you checked it while you waited?

Ok, so USC requests the information that they asked for a few days ago, not requires? I also just looked at my application, and I didn’t even enter my SSN, so I guess that’s why they misplaced my FAFSA.

I’m also beginning at USC for the spring semester, so they still do have some time to process my application.

But thank you for letting me know that I wont be at a disadvantage in terms of receiving aid. I guess I overreacted…

As a spring admit, you may not hear in the next week or so, but they WILL try to get it to you before May 1st when you would have to commit to another school. Remember, the package you will receive will be a 1/2 year package, so it won’t “look” like as much as others are posting right now, but the full-year package the next year will be approximately twice as much.
