Financial Aid Deadline Question

If the deadline for sending in the 1040, W2 forms, and all schedules is Jan 1, that’s just the postmark date right? If not, then I’ll have to fax it instead. Thanks.

Dear NuclearPenguins : In order to make the filing date of January 1st, you will need to send your family’s tax material covering the 2009 calendar year. You will then be required to update this file with your 2010 tax forms early in 2011. You should also include information as to whether a significant change in filing information (income increase/decrease, job loss) was expected year-over-year. (It has always seemed strange that a January 1st date exists given our US tax filing dates, but this is date is needed by Boston College to get the financial aid engine cranked up to allow families to make their acceptance decisions by the Spring.)

Nuclear - Where do you see a filing date of Jan 1st.?..I did not see anything like that.
I called them like a week ago and they just told me to submit my 2009 taxes when i can… but no deadline…

Nuclear:

The Jan 1 deadline is just to ensure that EA acceptances receive early notification of a financial award – they will get processed ahead of RD applicants. But that early notification will be preliminary, since your final award will be based on actual tax returns, submitted later. Thus, you can submit now or wait until ~Feb 1 and send actual numbers (assuming your parents will have their tax returns completed by Feb 1).

Yes, you can fax them, but there is no need. The mailing address is a scanning service which scans all docs, so BC will just send them from their internal fax machine to their scanning service. If you have the material ready, I would suggest using USPS Express Mail. It’s second day air for <$5. You can get a tracking number for an additional $.70.

Alright thanks everyone. Yeah I applied EA and I want a preliminary estimate. I already have everything ready so I’ll just mail it.

thanks for posting this… we have everything ready… heading to the post office now…
Thanks…

oops, I meant Flat Rate, Priority mail, which is $4.90 for a large envelope, 2nd day air. Express Mail is overnight, and ~$19. Save the $10.
