We are trying to determine whether to apply ED or RD to Syracuse, but financial aid is a big factor. I was hoping to find out if anyone can share what they received in need based financial aid. Thanks.
I can’t directly answer your question, but have you run the NPC? Estimated financial aid will be the same whether the student applies ED or RD. Note the NPC may not give accurate results if the parents are divorced, self-employed, or own multiple homes/properties.

Thanks. Yes, I’m divorced, so it does not come out accurately. I had heard that sometimes applying ED you may not get financial aid or might get less than what you should because you have no negotiating power. Do you know if that’s correct?
Can you estimate your ex’s financials to get a more accurate estimate? To apply for financial aid, Syracuse requires both the FAFSA ,which only includes the custodial parent’s financials (and student’s), AND the CSS Profile which requires the custodial parent’s financials (plus new spouse if remarried) and the non-custodial parent’s financials (plus new spouse if remarried).
I am not aware of any difference between Syracuse’s financial aid packages from ED to RD, although yes, I am aware that in general people speculate about this.
It’s best to not apply ED if you want to be able to compare financial aid offers. Families don’t necessarily have negotiating power, but some schools will match offers of PEER schools.
I did EDII to SU & recieved an AMAZING financial aid package and merit scholarship money as well
also if you dont get enough money you can always appeal to the financial aid office and in my experience they are very generous with giving more money
I applied ED! Syracuse promises to provide the same amount of aid in all rounds of applying! I’m a low income student with friends from all socio-economic statuses that go to Syracuse and they say that the financial aid is actually really good.

Thanks guys. Yes, my son ended up applying ED, got in. We weren’t happy with the financial aid, but we contacted them were able to get a little more - enough to make it so that we could afford it. Best of luck to all of you and to your kids.
