I am a senior in high school. I have already applied to Syracuse University for Regular Decision, however I just recently got emails from Syracuse University saying that Early Decision II is out. I want to change my admission process to Early Decision II because Syracuse is my top school, however I am worried about the amount of fiancial aid they will give out. My parents also don’t a high income, which is why I didn’t apply to the first Early Decision because at the time I thought that I would get less aid if I went with Early Decision. But then in the email for the opening of Early Decision II, it said that the fiancial aid recommendation is the same for Regular Decision and Early Decision. I also used the net price calculator on Syracuse’s website, the price I got was fairly reasonable. So, does anyone know if applying to Syracuse University for Early Decision II is a good idea?
financial aid will be the same- no matter how you apply. financial aid is based on need… not academics or anything extracurricular. that being said, applying EDII may influence the amount of merit scholarship you receive (academic-based) because you are already signing saying that you will come no matter what…
i applied EDI, because i knew there was nowhere else i wanted to be, and i am willing to take the financial burden. however, if the net price calculator gave you a reasonable price that you believe would be manageable, perhaps use that as the baseline for making your decision. If that was the price of tuition after EDII, would that be okay for you (saying you don’t receive any merit, which obviously i don’t know if that is your case)
trust me i know its stressful and it took me a long time to convince my parents i wanted to ED, whatever happens, in the end, was meant to happen… you got it!!
thank you so much, I really appreciate your opinion, I still haven’t switched to EDII yet but the deadline is January 1st and I don’t really know where my parents stand in the whole process. I know Syracuse is the only school that I applied to that I actually want to go but I’m just nervous of what’s going to happen.
Run the NPC as accurately as you can and print out the results so you have a starting point if the actual result is significantly different. Syracuse also requires the CSS Profile so be aware the results may be way off if your parents are divorced/remarried or if they own a business.
@helpingmom40 I submitted my FAFSA and CSS profile back in October and Syracuse has recently sent me a bunch of forms to fill out for financial aid verification but my parents are together and they don’t own a business but they have some self-employment stuff but I don’t know how much that will affect my aid amount. I’m trying to hope for the best and decide before January 1st so I really love the school.
i’m in the same situation. When i ran the NPC it was 100% affordable and actually my “perfect” financial aid package, but how accurate is the NPC? Syracuse is my top choice and i know if I got in RD with the right financial aid package I would put my deposit down ASAP lol. But if I EDII and I dont get enough aid, would I be able to withdraw my ED? and if so what qualifies as not getting enough aid? so many questions hope someone can provide me with some insight!
From what I understand if the numbers don’t work for you after being accepted ED or ED II you might be able to back out. You would have to check the ED agreement. That said, my son was accepted last year under regular decision and is a freshman now at SU. The NPC gave a good idea of the aid he would receive, but at the end of the day he received more than what was stated for the Syracuse Grant. In fact, ‘Cuse came in at the same price of our flagship instate university which provided no aid. Hope the numbers work for you and you can experience being Orange! ?
