Financial Aid for 60k-ers and Planning ahead?

Hi all

I plan on transferring to UCSD for fall of 14 but I have some concerns regarding my financial coverage.

My family hits the 60k for financial aid but just barely.. and for FAFSA that's the mark I believe to not be considered for aid? Is this right?

But the thing is I plan on living on campus and since I'll be transferring from a community college to a university where it is so much more expensive...will they take that into consideration?

I know there are Cal grants (like the cal grant transfer entitlement award), Pell grants, and school scholarships (that I'm not sure if they are transferable..) along with random scholarships, but are there any other major ones that I am missing?

How does the UCSD financial aid and or scholarships work? Someone told me that the main thing is just to fill out FAFSA in January and that once I have submitted my college app then I am automatically considered for financial aid and I don't have to do anything else..? Is it really that easy?

I am also having some problems finding scholarships that are transferrable for my university for fall 14. Most of the scholarships are to be used in the spring (in my community college).

And can anyone recommend me some good scholarship sources?

Sorry for asking so many questions--I am trying to plan ahead for my financial future and I want to try my hardest not to miss any important deadlines so please help ~! >_>
