Financial Aid for ED Applicants

Do anyone know if early decision applicants receive less financial aid than if applied regular? Some say that early decision applicants receive less financial aid than regular applicants because early decision is binding and early applicants don't need the financial aid lure. I hope this is not true because I think I could get in Cornell under regular.

nope usually more and they always said talk to the financial aid counselor if youhave a concern or if youthink it is not enough

Umm.. anyone?

I received my financial aid forms..

Did you guys receive about 50/50 in grant and loans for the financial aid?

oh man wth that would Suck. And have you heard anything about the other Ivy admits' aids packages (like the Columbians)? how are their packages?

one of my friend got into Columbia and he said he was very happy with the aid. But I didn't ask for the specs cause I was anxious about the Cornell decision.

i got my financial aid package... i'm a little dissapointed... i thought there would be more grants... but there are more loans than i anticipated...

but how's ur parents income..? and their savings? I guess those two could be a big factor in Cornell not giving you that much grants? Please dont answer these questions if it's too personal for you. err I am quite anxious here.. since money is a issue for me especially when it's 20k a year worth of loans, and I am going to receive my package quite late (living in Canada and still haven't gotten my acceptance letter).

em so how much loans exactly?

Grants and loans are about 50/50 for me.. i was expecting grants to be more than loans b/c thats what people usually get... i guess since we are early decision applicants (binding), Cornell has the right to give us less grant and more loans, and save the grant for more attractive regular applicants.

American in canada: are your grants/loans ratio about 50/50? or more loans than grants?

ugh greeaaat. now i'm anxious too! better start looking for scholarships.

they gave me like 16000 aid and i basically dont need to pay anything so far, but my mom's made more money this year so i assume i probably need to pay like a few thousand a don't know so far they gave me everything

Hey Rach719, is the 16000 aid just grants or both grants and loans combined?

My financial aid is quite poor actually. Only $3700 in grants and $10500 in loans plus $2500 for working. They expect my parents to contribute 30k per year which was about 8k above the EFC calculator at collegeboard.com so my parents are going to try and renegotiate. I asked my mom if she wanted me to do my other applications, but she still said I should send my withdrawal notice to U of R (The only school I applied to) so I somehow she expects to be able to work this out.

Wow, that's actually really poor financial aid for you.. at least i got 50/50 for grants and loans.. About how much is your family income? I'm assuming your parents make over 120k+ since they are able to contribute 30k..

Actually no, which is why the financial aid is soo poor. Combined income for the both of them is roughly 90k.

gosh what's wrong with them. do you guys think there's an upper limit for how much loans one can get? i mean if it's more than 15k of loans a year it's gonna be a Great burden when i graduate. How long would it take to pay back 60k Plus interest? hmm 2 Full years worth of income i guess.. it's just such a burden fiancially and emotionally.

welll dont hate..
i am a single parent family and my mom dont make that much money which is just wnough for our family of 3 with ym brother in college, that's why i am qualify for H/EOP

Tap - 5000
Pell - 4050
ED Grant - 16460

self help-
Loan - 3232
Work Study - 1800

so basically xcovered eveything

What's Tap and Pell?

Cornell gives the worst financial aid packages in the ivies. if i had applied, i would have gotten umm...

It is true that Cornell gives worst financial aid packages in the ivies???
