Financial Aid for ED Applicants

yea i've heard that too.

ya know what's weird? for that MVP thing my host got a full ride in grants and work study. no loans. EOP. her EFC was 0 and she had 2 siblings in college too. BUT my best friend's, she went to MVP too, host had NO AID at all! not even a loan. nooo aid. she had a tiny private scholarship that paid for books. and her 2 sisters go to some other really good colleges, don't remember which ones, and they both get amaazing aid there since there's 3 kids in college. but cornell said that her assets were worth so much that she wasn't eligible for aid. she's not that rich though.

so far i know if you are in H/EOP you probably get alot of Aid.... and i know ppl who got out of Cornell without paying a buck

Tap and Pell i dont know Financial Aid stuff

does anyone know what a "good" or average amount of financial aid is?

did anyone not get their f.a. package form yet?
I just recieved today a letter from f.a. office saying that they will send me the form as quickly as possible.

What kind of financial aid do other ivies give? More grants and less loans?

i didn't get it yet. but yea i got that letter saying it's coming as soon as possible.

hm what is H/EOP?

Almost a full ride, still about 2500 over our EFC. The loans really worry me (over 10k), but at least I know that my family can pay for it.

H/EOP is for low income and underepresenting students because of their family background they need to work throughout their highs school life inorder to support their family...

my family is low income and single parent as i said, and yea i did worked to pay my own stuff ......so i am qualified for H/EOP, even though my grades are not that low yet not high~ so i was qualified for that

they basically pay you more in financial aid

yeah i got 17,000 in aid (in state HumEc)... but 12000 of that 17000 is loans/ work study... only 5000 or so in grant aid...

This is one ED applicant from upenn this year and this is what he said he got for financial aid in his post:

"Penn expects my family to cover around 25,000 a year. My dad is the only that one works and he makes around 90,000-100,000 a year. However, all the other money to make up the full 47 grand, Penn has covered with scholarships/endowments. This means there are no loans whatsover on my financial aid. Does this mean I cannot get aids to pay off some of the 25,000 a year Penn expects my family to cover? Thanks."

My dad is also the only one that works and makes around 90k - 100k... but I got 13k loans instead of grants.. i guess Cornell just doesnt give much financial aid..

guys...this really worries me because I haven't got my FA package yet since they lost some of my permanent resident papers..so I had to re-fax them today. OMG. My parents are not wealthy at all. I'm reallllllly worried! AHHHHHHHHHHHH! I did not even begin to think about the financial aspects of college until now.

Don't worry asianjewel.. If you ARE poor, they will fulfill all your financial need. They want to keep you.

I'm not sure if I would be considered poor poorrr. Like I live in a family of 4. My dad is the only one that works, and he makes about ~50,000/year. We recently got a new house and is paying $2000/month for mortgage. That plus insurance for cars, medical blah blah...other expenses. I don't think we can afford really anything. =(((((
We're not below the cutoff line for super disadvantage families, yet we're like SO SLIGHTLY above it that it's sad.

If you don't get enough, call the financial aid advisor and negotiate =)

work on some scholarships

They sent me a letter saying I need to turn in the Busines and Farm supplement? My parents don't even own a business. . . I'm going to call the Financial Aid office 2morrow
