Financial Aid for ED Applicants

ok I am pretty worried. Do you guys know Anyone at all who got more than 15k loans per year? Cause that would be a really huge burden. Thanks a lot guys it's really important to me. Since I can't find out my package till very close to Jan 1st, I need to decide if I should start on my RD apps now...

I got accepted early d ,and Ive gotten two letters so far, but hey no financial aid package yet, but it seems like everyone already got it? oh man does this mean that theyre toying with me? anyone else get ed and not get financial aid yet? oh wow i thought all the stress would be gone once you get accepted, but now theirs even more stress of keeping your grades up, not getting arrested etc. etc...

yea i didn't get it yet either.

i only got 3500 in loans!

how'd that happen hunter#9? how much grant did u get, if you're willing to discuss it here

yea hmm pleeease pm me your info (if you dont wanna discuss here), since I m not in US so I really dont know how the financial aids really works and I am afraid I will get more than 10k loans. Thanks!

folks,
is the college grant renewable every year ?

wow hunter9 3900 in loans thats it?? haha that kicks ass, lol latino's get the best financial aid packet, speaking of financial aid lol I was in a cornell chatroom with other Ed 2011 kids and i asked em ''hey did any of you guys get your financial aid stuff yet?'' and they were like ''whats financial aid?'' haha none of em applied. rich mofos haha but thats good , more financial aid for Vinny and hunter9 haha

I got $17,000 in grants and $12000 in loands, and they expect my parents to contributed $17500 when they earned about $45,000 (after taxes) last year. There's definetly going to be some negotiations going on. I checked my CSS Profile and it turns out my parents misinterperted the mortage question and entered $40,000 instead of the $150,000 owed on our house, so if that's corrected I predict some more grants, or at least less loans.

Even worse, we got a blizzard here wednesday so there was no mail either thursday or friday, meaning I got the financial aid notice today, which means I have to wait until January 2nd to start asking some questions. Buggers.

i got $38000 in aid. $3000 loan, $500 NYS TAP, $33000 grant, $1800 work study. dayum.

I still haven't gotten my fin. aid package yet -_-
They lost some of our stuff, so I guess they're now re-assessing or something. Dayum. I wish they would hurr up. ugh.

Surprisingly, I got very nice financial aid. 23,000 in grants, 12,000 in loans to my 90k family. Probably because my brother's in college, too.

The grants should stay the same year after year if your family's circumstances don't change. When I was first admitted to Cornell, I had all grants, no loans, and a 2,000 summer savings expectation (wich can always be adjusted with a loan). After three years, my package has improved slightly every year. If your income in very low Cornell will take good care of you. But if you can be considered Middle Class by any stretch of the imagination then you are screwed.

i got:

parents: $1000
summer savings: $2180
(total $3180)

TAP grant: $5000
ED grant: $27,850
(total $32850)

ford subsidized loan: $2639
perkins loan: $4000
ford unsub loan: $861
university loan: $2830
employment earnings: $1800
(total $12,130)

for a grand total financial aid package of $44,980 - just $5 (yes, five bucks.) below my family's estimated need =D)

hey i never know what's that summer saving means...
is there anything to do with H/EOP?

heyy rachel rach the summer thing your speaking of is how much they expect you to make, Cornell expects you to go get a job an internship sell your Hess truck collection whatever and make that much, my brother has the same thing (hese a sophmore at Cornell) and he has to make a certain amount during the summer and winter breaks (he has a internship at Liberty Mutual here in boston) but yeah with Cornell under your sleeve your getting payed big bucks even as a freshman so if they said like 1300 summer expectations you gotta make around that much you know than write out a check to cornell. But you can use scholarships and what not to try and cover that.

wait how am i supposed to make $2180 in a summer? I make $10 an hour, and assuming there are 35 days (5 weeks) in the summer i could work (i will be traveling a lot for ultimate, possibly going to nationals the weekend before orientation starts, and many other tourneys as well)...that means i have to work almost 6.5 hours a day, every single day. in my job, this isn't possible, because i work for my mom landscaping, and she doesn't work every day.. let alone for 6+ hours.

does that seem excessive to anyone?

yeah you wont be able to make that... but you can make it up in other ways... like working during breaks and getting money for your birthday etc...

lol i don't get money for my birthday. if you noticed, my financial aid package is rather large, meaning we don't HAVE money, let alone any to give me for my birthday. =P and my relatives are stingy.

by 'working during breaks' do you mean working on campus or at home? obviously landscaping can't be done over winter break, and i would think it would be rather difficult to get a job for just a few weeks.. or am i wrong?

lol sorry if i seem snappy. i just realized this and i'm kind of stressing out now. =P
