I'm an international who is considering applying to UPenn as a transfer student. However, I'll need some financial aid to supplement my family's contribution to the cost of my education, and UPenn states that it has limited financial aid for international transfer students. Should I apply anyway and hope that, on the very slight chance that I'm accepted, I'll be awarded at least 4000 dollars? Common sense tells me not to bother, but on the other hand, an unrealistic sense of optimism urges me to apply. xD I'd really appreciate your opinions. Thank you.

Well. If you can handle a heavy load of work + study then a lot of Penn offers student-workers position. I have plenty of friends who are international students here and they all work 20 hours/week earning $700-$1000 per month. But I don’t really know if you can work in the first semester. Btw, you said you expect $4,000 + fin aid only? Considering that Penn costs $60,000 per year, this means you can pay $56,000? If that’s the situation, you should not worry. Stay away from parties and live frugally and save a few grands per year!

LOL actually it turns out that my parents can’t afford as much as I initially thought they could. xD I’ll need between 20000 and 25000 dollars to attend. Thanks for your information, mixter. This totally changes things, huh? Has UPenn admitted international transfer students who need this much aid in recent years? I guess I shouldn’t bother to apply?
